Rising conservative activist Candace Owens criticized over Hitler comments

A rising conservative activist and Trump supporter is facing criticism after a video of her defending nationalism and differentiating it from Adolf Hitler’s policies went viral.

Candace Owens is the communications director of Turning Point USA, a conservative advocacy group. She made the comments at a December event in the U.K. to promote the launch of Turning Point UK, a British offshoot of the group.

Buzzfeed reported on the video Friday.

In the video, Owens was asked about nationalism in Western politics.

“I actually don’t have any problems at all with the word ‘nationalism,'” Owens said. “I think that the definition gets poisoned by elitists that actually want globalism.

“Whenever we say nationalism, the first thing people think about, at least in America, is Hitler,” Owens said.“He was a national socialist. But if Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine.”

COMMENT:-

Hey, there were a lot of good people in the German government under the Nazis.

I mean they were good to their kids and didn't beat their wives, or stuff like that, and they went to church regularly.

Not only that but Adolf Hitler didn't cheat on his wife - not even ONCE throughout his whole marriage.

Yikes. That's the kind of thing you google just to make sure it's not Onion or Borowitz.

But sure enough it happened.

She and other members of the far right are trying to rehabilitate nationalism.

The only problem is that Hitler used nationalism to justify the worst crimes of his regime.

I guess. But it seems to me that nationalism is either good or bad regardless of hitler.

Yep, and her biggest sin was saying was a globalist, not a nationalist - inflaming the composite fury of the globalist press and commentating class.

Here's what she actually said:
I actually don't have any problems at all with the word "nationalism." I think that the definition gets poisoned by elitists that actually want globalism.
Globalism is what I don't want. Whenever we say "nationalism," the first thing people think about, at least in America, is Hitler. You know, he was a national socialist, but if Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine. The problem is that he wanted — he had dreams outside of Germany.
He wanted to globalize. He wanted everybody to be German, everybody to be speaking German, everybody to look a different way. That's not, to me, that's not nationalism
. In thinking about how we could go bad down the line, I don't really have an issue with nationalism. I really don't. I think that it's OK.

No, she said what you say she did, and . . .
She actually said a little more than your quote, which changes the context significantly.

Was the woman actually talking about Hitler? If so, why the hell was she? Why the hell does anyone need, in 2019, to talk about Hitler? Has enough not already been said about him?

She said the problem with Hitler was that he wanted to impose on a global scale the plans he had for Germany. She expressed no concern over the plans he had for Germany. She said he was "fine" before he decided to go global.

A black woman is going to re-start the nazi party? :lamo

There's nothing wrong with nationalism. It's literally the same thing as patriotism. It's having pride in one's country. Although, I can see how Libbos think that is a bad thing, because the hate The United States.

Nah, she was hypothesizing that if Hitler had just desired to improve conditions inside Germany he could be labeled a "nationalist" but he wanted to expand his authority across Europe - making him more of a globalist.

Blue State America hates your White Nationalist views....Believe it

He perverted "nationalism" to mask a globalist intentions.

Blue state America hates the freedom and liberty that The United States stands for.

The first concentration camp was in dachau, and the first concentration camp victims were also German.

So you honestly think tgat what she was saying was "its fine if he only wanted to gas jews in germany, but its not ok once he wants to do that elsewhere"?

I dont like candace owens or whatever her name is. Her arguments are typically very poor. But i have an incredibly hard time believing that tye point she was trying to make was that hitler was ok except for when he did stuff outside of germany.

Maybe im just not getting it.

That is the point she is trying to make in defense of nationalism.

Like many other things "nationalism" has a dictionary definition and then one defined by the person invoking it.

What the hell? The woman wasn't talking about Hitler; she was taking about nationalism.

Just because someone utters "Hitler" in a sentence does not make their remarks be "about Hitler."

Regardless of one's stance re: Candance or her views, one should at least exhibit the reading comprehension skill of accurately discerning what be the subject of a writer's/speaker's sentences and paragraphs. WTF? That is a skill American children are expected to have masted in the sixth grade, for crying out loud.

Yes, she was talking about Hitler. But why? That's a good question.

Why even go there?

By the way, also among her recent comments is the claim that the KKK doesn't exist anymore. She's a nutter who is enjoying the 15 minutes of fame she has found by saying outrageous things in defense of the Nutter-in-Chief.

Looks to me like she was using Hitler's "nationalism" as a misappropriation of the term. Hitler's goal to annex most of Europe and Russia and his alliance with Japan suggest more of a globalism slant.

Frankly, the woman hasn't yet made it onto my "radar."

As it turns out, Candace wasn't talking about Hitler. She was talking about nationalism.

Yes, she was talking about Hitler.

She was defending nationalism AND talking about Hitler. And she said the problem with Hitler was that he wanted to take his show on the road internationally. He was fine as long as he kept it in Germany but then he decided to go global. So the question is why she felt it was a good idea to go there.
