The Green New Deal Would Spend the U.S. Into Oblivion

(Bloomberg Opinion) -- Skeptics of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s promise of a Green New Deal were worried that the plan would be a Trojan Horse for unrealistic and ruinously expensive economic proposals that have little to do with stopping climate change. The unveiling of the plan gives them more reason for worry. Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal appears to take every big spending idea that has emerged on the political left in recent years and combine them into one large package deal, with little notion of how to pay for them all.

Well, I do question her math.....she seems to be coming up trillions short.

Again, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is upsetting all the right people.

The "New Green Deal" is not really legislation, just an outline of goals in the form of a nonbinding resolution. Which means that even if passed it has no more legislative strength than recognizing National Corvette Day, nor would it even reach the floor of consideration in the Senate because it does not have to.

The OP article opinion, while largely accurate in terms of cost, does not really matter at this point.

Lofty goals and ambitions are nothing new with nonbinding resolutions like this, and in a sad way the purpose of the proposal is to suggest the end goal without much means to get there. Kinda a waste of time but it is generating tons of media coverage simply because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to challenge the norms.

If passed as is, nothing happens the moment after it passes. Full stop.

Each piece of the resolution would have to go through the entire legislative process that includes crafting the legislation, spending by department and funding beyond MMT theory, actual targets for actual activity from the spending, and so forth. We would be talking about a massive undertaking crossing several Congresses I am sure (given how slow things seem to happen in Congress these days, especially when split.)

Not to worry though, the latest round of funding government is about to take center stage in a week or so and all of this hype about... a nonbinding, no action, no spending, no actual change resolution... will end up a footnote.

Yep, so far just more "Hope and Change" with no actual policy changes (bills) to judge it by. It could just as easily been called the "Moms Are Good People Act" and anyone opposed to it could then be called a mother denier (hater?).

What is the national debt? How much of that is because of the War On Terror?

I think the US has already been spent into oblivion.

It's a matter of do we think it's important enough to start the change? Money, bah. It's always about money, we don't have the money. We have money for the military, we have money to give farmers, oil companies the auto industry and a hatful of other industries like coal and steel. For what? A future failure down the road that we ended up wasting a ton of money on trying to save. Things are changing, alternative sources of energy are coming online. It's the rich who don't want things to change and they will spend millions trying to confuse the average voter into voting against their own best interests.

We don't have our priorities in order in my opinion. We have the money or can figure out a way to make anything we want to happen in america happen. It's a matter of wanting to do it. We went to the moon in an arms race with russia, we can find the money for peace and not kill our earth or ourselves in the process.

Almost none of this is based on facts, oil companies do not get subsidies, alternative energy is an unprofitable failure, the military costs nothing compared to AOCs “green new deal” (really a red ten year plan) which would not only cost money but lead to over a billion deaths mainly in the third world over a decade (because the US’s massive grain surplus is only possivle with fossil fuels)

There is separation between church and state and the green deal is a type of religion. It is a religion because it is not rational since the costs and hardships is not even considered. It is a beautiful utopian vision of paradise on earth but lacks any rational common sense. I believe in the right of people to practice their religion, but separation of church and state prevents this from being taught in schools or forced by government on all.

Another point that the left misses, is green is the waste energy of plants. The sun gives off all wavelengths of visible energy and the plants releases the green like a waste product. Green is like the exhaust fumes of an automobile. It is not fuel. We see green, because the plants uses red, blue and yellow and rejects most of the green. Green is the plant waste product of the sunlight fuel. If you grew a plant under green light, it would die in the same way as no light. The New Green Deal worships photon exhaust fumes.

We call it green, because that is what we see in terms of plant color. The plant eats red, yellow and blue and farts out green. The plant photon farts and energy exhaust fumes, creates an optical green halo, that is superficial. This appeals to those who don't go that deep. Underneath the green photon farts is the life fuel and energy of the plant that is life. The left likes plant photon farts, which appears to give them a buzz. This green photon fart worship it what makes it a religion, since they idealize the exhaust fumes as the source of life. This is not supported by science.

    Forget the cost.

AOC, 60 democrats in congress and 6 Democrat presidential candidates all want the following:

    1. Stop using Oil.
    2. Stop using Coal.
    3. Abolish private health insurance.
    4. Abolish all airplanes.
    5. Abolish all beef.
    6. Abolish the internal Combustion Engine.
    7. Gaurantee a living wage to all regardless of whether they wish to work or just lay back and smoke dope.

Her efforts will, in the next 12 years if successful do the following:

Cause unrestrained famine across the country. Can't grow or deliver food to New York City. Can you imagine?

    Cause runaway unemployment.

Dismantle these industries: Auto, Airplane, Airline, Ranching, Oil, Coal, and God knows what other industries connected to these.

AOC is an ongoing source of confusion, stupidity and wondrously wild eyed insanity.

If she was just wandering down main street raving at the wind, it would be so bad. She's in congress. We're in trouble.

Exactly the kind of answer I expect from those on the right or leaning right. No can do, money, money, money, fossil fuel. If you actually think there is no such thing as corporate welfare, try typing those two words into a google search.
