Hell, at this point the democrats may experience some strange schism and split into two different parties before the next election.
it has been noted by several commentators over the last 30 years that they expect the Democratic Party to have some interesting issues concerning "favored minority group" issues. One article I read-at least 15 years ago, noted that in some areas of the country, Latinos were voting in larger numbers for the Democratic Congressional candidate than blacks but the party kept picking blacks rather than Latinos for political office. There are already some conflicts. Some of the Democrats most reliable supporters include some Asian groups and Jewish Americans. Their economic interests are often diametrically opposed to the economic interests of groups that are far more dependent on government handouts and support. Blue collar workers are also strong supporters of the Dems-especially union members. Yet trade unions (as opposed to pure bargaining units like AFSCME or SEIU) such as the IBEW, the Carpenters or pipefitters are often very pro gun rights as well as voting for the Dems. So I expect to see some interesting conflicts as the interests of various DNC constituents collide.
