Actually, what Trump has done is create a NEW religion where he is the savior. Read the posts by Trump supporters, notice the denial that they exhibit when turning their eyes away from the truth of what their sycophancy enables.

Far right evangelicals are flocking to trump because he respects the 10 commandments like 'Thou shallt not commit adultery' and 'Thou shallt not kill". And they are happy that there isn't a muslim and a whore in the whitehouse anymore.

trump sure has done a lot for religion. He has made breaking the 10 commandments perfectly normal behaviour. We now have adulterers and murderers claiming that trump told them it was OK.

Trump panders to them. He appoints christian dominionists to cabinet positions, for christ's sake. The smart people know EXACTLY why the evangelicals are supporting Trump, it's not an enigma. The evangelicals see Trump as a means to an end. That "end" though, is the end of equality and justice for the rest of us.

If what you're saying is that we must learn from Trump, to disingenuously exploit evangelical morons as he has by pretending to value their phony moralizing and totalitarian politics, you're wrong. What the left must do is remain true to OUR values, which are human-centric not magical and hypocritical. We can't fix stupid people by pretending with them that they're not. We need to call them out and quit acting like they have legitimate arguments.
