The "problem" has not completely disappeared, but has been managed down over the past 10 years to not much of a problem. Nonetheless, Trump tries to milk it for all its worth in riling up his base who have no sense of context.

The number of illegal immigrants in the US is actually going down with most new illegals arriving on airplanes and overstaying their welcome. The idea of the borders being overrun is a problem of 20 years ago.

Migrant Caravan Heading Towards U.S. Turns Around In Mexico:

The caravan of Honduran migrants has turned around Friday — a day after reaching the Mexico-Guatemala border, according to a report.

Some 4,000 migrants fled their lives of poverty and violence in the Central American country with the hope of making it to the United States — despite repeated warnings from President Trump that he would deploy the US military to stop them.

The caravan arrived at the border in southern Mexico on Thursday but turned around Friday, the Associated Press reported.
