Cherokee Nation: Warren's use of DNA test 'inappropriate,' 'wrong'

See my last post. Harvard doesn’t exactly have a sterling record when it comes to publicly admitting to racial biases. Besides, if it wasn’t a factor in hiring then why did Harvard promote her as a Native American hire?

Promote her as Native American?...Where?...Prove it.....You can't that is a lie

Then why are people bothered if she has a DNA test or not... silliness.

I don't know why, or whether (for that matter), people are bother that she has a DNA test.

  • I know Dr. Warren disclosed the results of the DNA analysis she had performed and that Trump has remarked upon it.
  • I know a spokesperson for the Cherokee Nation has remarked upon her disclosure.
  • I know that at least two members of DP have started threads about the disclosure and their thoughts on the veracity of the claim and what the Cherokee Nation has said about citizenship in the Cherokee Nation.
  • I know I shared (in post 3) my analysis of and conclusion about Dr. Warren's disclosure and the Cherokee Nation spokesperson's statement about it.
I suggest you pose your above question to people whom you can identify as being "bothered if she has a DNA test or not." I'm bothered neither that she had a DNA test nor over what be the results of such a test. I care only whether the remarks she and others make in public are truthful, and based on what I know about her remarks (see post 3) they seem truthful.

Why yes, she does, because she identified as part in the 80's and 90's when a lot of the old family matriarchs were dying off, and she wanted to keep the family tradition and stories going on. She is also responding to the declaratory nicknames about her,and the claim that she lied. This showed she didn't.

Question --- what amount of Native ancestry would've disproven her claim?

And it's not her claim to have Native ancestry that's the problem, it's if she used her "Native American heritage" (as probably 90% of all Americans have) to move forward in her career. Anyone with that little Native ancestry shouldn't be claiming to be Native American. She was listed in her law school directories as a Native American professor. Do you think that was an accurate label based on her teeny tiny amount of Native American history? *I* have closer Native ancestry than she does and I would never call myself a Native American.

Promote her as Native American?...Where?...Prove it.....You can't that is a lie

The Harvard Crimson circa 1996:

“Although the conventional wisdom among students and faculty is that the Law School faculty includes no minority women, Chmura said Professor of Law Elizabeth Warren is Native American.”

Chmura is Harvard spokesperson Mike Chmura. Need I go on with law reviews or the fact that she identified herself as Native American in the directory of the Association of American Law Schools from 1986 to 1995 or the fact that Harvard was plugging her as a Native American faculty member in federal documents outlining their diversity stats?

That still does not prove anything whether or not Elizabeth Warren got into Harvard because of affirmative action.

I have more Native American in me than Warren but would never think about using such a thing for personal gain.

In the early 1800's after Revolutionary War my ancestors in the Virginia Militia who actually were part of the 1/3 who fought the British while 1/3 were British loyalists and the other third were pacifists and neither were help to the cause.

Those who did fight for freedom, for their service were allotted land in the wilderness and one location was called the Ohio Territory at the time. There were multiple Indian tribes in the area and often at war with each other. Mingo, Delaware, Wyandot, Shawnee, Ottawa and others that fled earlier because of battles. And several of these tribes alined with the British and the French against the settlers. Ohio was total wilderness. My ancestors traveled to this wilderness and were darn near wiped out during the first Winter. It was the Shawnee Indians that aided them through that brutal Winter. Even though they had aligned themselves with the British earlier, this Chief found mercy on my decedents. They provided them with the knowledge for medicinal to other things for survival. They became very good friends. So much so the Chief gave his daughter to my ggg grandfather in marriage. They had many children. I have only written descriptions of my ggg grandmother, they say she was beautiful to look at and more important had a beautiful heart. One of their children was known as "Buck" my gg grandfather. He had 4 sons. When the oldest was just 7 another Indian tribe attacked their homestead killing my gg grandfather and grandmother but did not touch the children. The kids were raised by nearby homesteaders all separated from one another. One of those sons became my g grandfather. He and two of his three brothers fought in the Civil war. All returned from the war alive but some with scars for their service. All made a good life for themselves after. Only in the U.S.

That's not what Warren did.

Why are you guys so determined to lie about Warren's claims, like 100% of the time?

The Cherokee nation itself has come out and rejected her DNA test as any connection to the tribe.

Sometimes there can be amazing ignorance of what titles mean. The group calling itself 'Cherokee Nation' isn't THE Cherokee Nation. According to the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) this group isn't a Cherokee tribe but a 'successor in interest' sort of a lobby group.

The current tribes do have an interest in keeping DNA tests out of tribal recognition. The slippery slope they worry about is having to open the roles to many more people. There is a worry more people will attempt to get on those roles to gain a share in the Casino Revenues.

To be an official Cherokee- blood or DNA doesn't count. One must be able to prove they are a descendent of someone on the so-called Dawes Rolls. That is the 'catch', blood doesn't count, being descended from a 'roll' member does. But even that has been fought against as the so-called freedmen Cherokees were banned from voting in the Cherokee elections. That is recent history of native elitism- this was 2011.

The more you know... :peace

Looks like Warren stuck her foot in her mouth this time.

Irrelevant. She didn't take the test to impress the Cherokee nation. She did it to shut up morons like Trump.

A nice family story- kinda like Warrens... if you go against Trump he is gonna want to swab your mouth before believing a word of it....

Sad note to your story, your ancestors were one of the few lucky ones, many veterans were promised lands in the Ohio but later were denied their claims as the lands were given to creditors to cover war claims. Many who became millionaires in Ohio can trace their heritage back to war profiteers from the Revolutionary War.

Would be interesting to see what the DNA test shows for your heritage... :peace

Nobody cares...This about that asshole trump spouting lies and bigoted statements

Do you have a clue what this thread was about? Nope you don't just full of rage and simmering hate towards President Trump.

Poor soul.....

I would like to go out on a limb and, say that Elizabeth was trying to score votes. She is a lair and, she is mentally ill

I believe its Trump who lies and has the personality disorder known as narcissistic personality disorder. Hell. the man is tge poster boy for the disorder. Were are those tax returns? Do you have a double standard on truth telling ?

Irrelevant. She didn't take the test to impress the Cherokee nation. She did it to shut up morons like Trump.

A test that proves nothing! Just an outburst from Warren at a very bad time.
The Cherokee nation is very upset with her stupid antics. They say absolutely she is NOT a member of their tribe.
Lets see how long she drags this out? Beyond tone deaf!

I have a lot of documentation on my family genealogy. It isn't based on high cheekbones and folklore as Warren's. Good day.

It was an example of Trumps lies, your holier than tho attutude has been debunked. Stop lying to protect the Hump Her in Chief.

I agree with you. Calling her Pocahantas is an insult....to Pocahantas.

He needs to use the adopted name given to her by the Right: Fauxahontas

Actually, the story we all hear about Pocahantas is false. She was kidnapped, then raped, then murdered.

Cherokee Nation?....That phony group you cited.....

Nice story, Pocahontas.

A cheap shot from you Threegoofs oh my nothing new! Only problem is I never tried to benefit from my Native heritage. I have never tried to benefit that I had an ancestor on the Mayflower either.

And that is just on my Mother's side. On my Father's side who came here at the turn of the century alone on a boat with just 30 bucks in his pocket and a trunk of his belongings at the age of 17 because his father didn't want to see him be turned into a slave by the Bolsheviks… turns out in my geneology my maiden name is related to royalty. So for now on Threegoofs, it will be Princess Vesper ….got it?
