Trump: 'Robert E. Lee was a great general'

I'm sure a thread like this TRIGGERS lots of gullible leftwinger propagandists to come in here and tell us some of their lies and BS stories. They never miss a chance to FOOL THE MASSES with more leftie BS.

History shows the bigoted Whites in the Confederacy got their asses kicked...Is that propaganda?

It is not a matter of which was worse but a matter of people have the right to choose. What the USA did to the Native Americans could be considered genocide. We literally exterminated them. The treatment of the native Americans was right up there with slavery if not worse. It does not get much worse than genocide.

And immense groups of people in the Confederacy had no right to choose anything.

Only if one handwaves away the fact that the vast majority of the deaths were due to disease and happened before there was an United States.

I get that you are reaching for a moral equivalence in a desperate attempt to justify your support for the Confederacy but it simply isn’t there.

The Klan repeatedly bombed churches buddy.

Wicked white men and wicked black men have done much evil because they ignored God. This whole nation will go to hell if we allow it to continue to ignore God they way so many are doing today.

No God(s) have ever been proven to exist.

Rommel was also a great general. His tactics are still being studied today.

Rommel lost his life due to his participation in a coup plot against Hitler that went bad. Rommel was in fact a leading choice for new leader post Hitler.

Lee never conceived of any such thing even as the demented Confederate cause crept and staggered to its inevitable failure. Lee and his generals were more in lockstep for the Confederacy than Hitlers' generals were for Germany under the Nazi party. In short, the one party Confederacy was more disciplined and fiercely loyal than the German generals were to the Nazi party and to Hitler himself. Leaders of the Confederacy were more like Nazis than German generals were in or under the Nazi party.

Confederate generals were fanatics led by the chief fanatic, Lee. And Lee if you don't know it was a cold man with a hard stare. The classic thousand mile stare.

There's a statue of Will Rogers in the Capitol Building too and Rogers was a comedian.

We still have monuments For Benedict Arnold.
He was one heck of a general as well.

He was a traitor as well during on of our most difficult times as a country.

that still doesn't take away from his ability to lead an army.

So you're saying the secessionists had freedom to deprive other people of their freedom? What kind of twisted logic is that?

No, Im saying two wrongs dont make a right. Slavery is wrong, so was forcing the south under the authority of the union. Had they freed the slaves and gone home, we wouldnt be having an argument today. Heck, the union didnt even free the slaves in the north. The emancipation didnt apply to border states. And Lincoln was more concerned with keeping the union than slavery.

Except they were explicitly fighting to keep other people from being free.

Your argument is incredibly hypocritical.

Just the opposite, to say the slaves should be free but not the south is hypocritcal. Im saying BOTH should be free.

Why is he being honored with a statue of him inside the capitol building? Use logic

Each state sends two statues to Statuary Hall in the Capitol Building. The Feds have no say in it and simply put the statues in a suitable place. I suspect however that if some sh!thole state in the Deep South -- such as Louisiana for instance -- might try to send a statue of David Duke to the Hall the practice and procedure of the Feds accepting whatever statue a state sends for display would change overnight.

Mississippi as a further instance sent Jefferson Davis whose statue still stands. MS is Davis birthplace. Davis' Mississippi chum James Z. George stands next to Davis in the Hall...

He served as a private in the Mexican–American War under Colonel Jefferson Davis, and participated in the Battle of Monterey.[1] In 1931, the state of Mississippi donated a bronze statue of George to the United States Capitol's National Statuary Hall Collection.

As a member of the Mississippi Secession Convention, George signed the Ordinance of Secession. A Confederate colonel of the 5th Mississippi Cavalry during the Civil War, he was captured twice and spent two years in a prisoner of war camp. In 1879 he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Mississippi and immediately was chosen chief justice by his colleagues. From 1881 until his death, George represented Mississippi in the United States Senate. The J. Z. George High School in North Carrollton, Mississippi is named in his honor, which is less than two miles from his burial place. In addition, George County, Mississippi, is also named in his honor.

Louisiana has statues of Huey Long and Edward Douglas White the 9th chief justice of the United States (1910 - 1921) who had been an associate justice since 1894...

White's Civil War service was taken as a matter of common knowledge at the time of his initial nomination to the United States Supreme Court, and the Confederate Veteran periodical, published for the United Confederate Veterans, congratulated him upon his confirmation. He sided with the Supreme Court majority in Plessy v. Ferguson, which upheld the legality of state segregation to provide "separate but equal" public facilities in the United States, despite protections of the Fourteenth Amendment to equal protection of the laws.

White was a member of the Ku Klux Klan in the aftermath of the death of the Confederacy. Later, while on the Supreme Court, he approved of the film The Birth of a Nation, which helped reignite the Klan in the 1920s.

In short, while Statuary Hall in the Capitol Building is dominated by noble and honorable American personages, it also has some shady characters sent mainly by certain states of the Deep South to include some vile lowlife scum.

OK, but the freedom whites were fighting for was to maintain and spread slavery. And I don't see being subject to the laws of the U.S. that each of those states voluntarily agreed to join as a synonym for "not free." Are you unfree because you cannot murder, rape?

It is expected that people who worship the cold and mean pretender-Saint Robert E. Lee would also fall to their knees before the ***** whipped money gruber Benedict Arnold...

Arnold repeatedly claimed that he was passed over for promotion by the Continental Congress, while other officers obtained credit for some of his accomplishments.[4] Others in his military and political circles brought charges against him of corruption or other malfeasance, but most often he was acquitted in formal inquiries. Congress investigated his accounts, however, and concluded that he was indebted to Congress, and he borrowed heavily to maintain a lavish lifestyle.

Arnold mingled with Loyalist sympathizers in Philadelphia and married into one such family, to vivacious young Peggy Shippen. She was a close friend of British Major John André and kept in contact with him when he became head of the British espionage system in New York. Many historians point to her as facilitating Arnold's plans to switch sides; he opened secret negotiations with André, and Peggy relayed the messages. The British promised £20,000 for the capture of West Point, a major American stronghold Arnold commanded. His scheme was to surrender the fort to the British, but it was exposed in September 1780 when Patriot militia captured André carrying papers which revealed the plot. Arnold escaped and André was hanged.

Arnold received a commission as a brigadier general in the British Army, an annual pension of £360, and a lump sum of over £6,000.[5] He led British forces on raids in Virginia, and they burned much of New London, Connecticut to the ground and slaughtered surrendering forces after the Battle of Groton Heights—just a few miles downriver from the town where he had grown up. In the winter of 1782, he and Peggy moved to London, England. He was well received by King George III and the Tories but frowned upon by the Whigs and most Army officers. In 1787, he moved to Canada to a merchant business with his sons Richard and Henry. He was extremely unpopular there and returned to London permanently in 1791.

Harper's Weekly published an article in 1861 describing Confederate leaders as "a few men directing this colossal treason, by whose side Benedict Arnold shines white as a saint."

Robert E. Lee was a ****ing traitor who should have been hung in public.

Trump was in Ohio, and the clowns who cheered are laughably pig-ignorant of the fact that Lee and his army killed thousands of Ohioans.

**** Lee, **** his memory and **** treason.
And all the ignorant assholes who who deny the facts.

The choice wasn't between a right or a wrong, but between two wrongs, because there was no, 'free the slaves in the South and go home and allow the South to secede but without maintaining and spreading slavery,' option.

It's true the emancipation excluded seceded states under the control of the union, and that Lincoln cared more about the union than slavery, but I don't see either as indictments of Lincoln. At the time of the EP, the overriding goal was to win the Civil War, period. And of course a President's primary concern should always be to preserve the union, especially as he had no authority to free slaves within the U.S. not matter his concerns about slavery.

I see you no longer have even the slightest shred of an argument and are just posting to say you did so.

Just want you to continue filling the internet and any other media, with your fascist BS.
Please continue.

Actually, your fine friends up here are now removing statues of Sir John A McDonald, our first PM.
Apparently John was human, and had some human frailties related to the day.
Much like Lee I would imagine.
It makes the snowflakes up here nutty to think our historical figures don't meet with their current moral standards.
Of course...most people think they are simply dopy. Thus Pixey-Dust is on his way out, and the Conservatives are set to take the House of Commons come the next election. Till then, province after province falls to conservative parties.

Have a warm and fuzzy day.

There is absolutely no question about that. Seems to me even confederate haters could be a little more charitable in an assessment of this
fine leader of soldiers. No other general in Lee's position could have been expected to win, The success he had was astonishing.

If Lee had fought in the Revolution the British generals would have ate his lunch.

If Lee had fought in WW I the Germans would have captured him.

If Lee had been supreme allied commander in WW II we'd be speaking Russian. Which reminds me how much American Conservatives like Putin and Lee so much -- not to mention Trump.

Moreover there is no comparing the Patriot General Grant to the cowardly traitor Robert E. Lee.

They were to be freed within 5 years after his death, which they were.

From 1857-59 Lee took two years out from the US Army to tend to his estate. One reason is that with civil war approaching Lee the Lieutenant-Colonel in the Army Corps of Engineers had never commanded infantry, cavalry or artillery units. In 1855 Lee had finagled to become second in command of 2nd cavalry regiment where he likely spent more time holding the horse of the colonel in command than protecting settlers from Indians. During the war in Mexico Lee the engineer won the affection of commanding Gen. Scott by his engineers recon and trails findings.

When John Brown seized the Union arsenal at Harper's Ferry, Lee on leave at his mansion was the most available ranking officer so Lee got hustled to the waiting train full of Marines whose major in command led the charge that did in Brown. Once inside the arsenal the major used his sword vigorously on Brown who was quite hospitalized for quite a time afterward. (What's brown and red all over -- John is.) After Brown was hanged and twisting in the wind Lee was cold as ice when Brown's widow approached Lee with several questions. (The sheriff let nine minutes pass before he pulled the lever on Brown standing on the spot.)

Lee's cruelty on the Arlington plantation nearly led to a slave revolt, since many of the slaves had been given to understand that they were to be made free as soon as Custis died, and protested angrily at the delay.[60] In May 1858, Lee wrote to his son Rooney, "I have had some trouble with some of the people. Reuben, Parks & Edward, in the beginning of the previous week, rebelled against my authority—refused to obey my orders, & said they were as free as I was, etc., etc.—I succeeded in capturing them & lodging them in jail. They resisted till overpowered & called upon the other people to rescue them."[59]

Less than two months after they were sent to the Alexandria jail, Lee decided to remove these three men and three female house slaves from Arlington, and sent them under lock and key to the slave-trader William Overton Winston in Richmond, who was instructed to keep them in jail until he could find "good & responsible" slaveholders to work them until the end of the five-year period.[59]

Lee ruptured the Washington and Custis tradition of respecting slave families and by 1860 he had broken up every family but one on the estate, some of whom had been together since Mount Vernon days.

I only worship God thank you i do not worship men, but you have proven yourself incapable of rational discussion which we already knew.

The fact is that because they fought for the other side doesn't take away from their leadership ability.
Arnold before he turned won several major battles for the Continental Army.

you can't seem to leave your personal skew out of the conversation but that is typical.
