I concur with our magnificent leader of this country who's making it great again. He was right tonight about the patriotic General Lee.. any military historian will agree with his statement. Robert E. Lee being a talented general and the reality that it was frustrating to President Lincoln and General Grant is simply a statement of historical fact.

President Trump praised Confederate Geader Robert E. Lee as "a great general" on Friday during a campaign rally in Lebanon, Ohio.

"So Robert E. Lee was a great general. And Abraham Lincoln developed a phobia. He couldn’t beat Robert E. Lee," Trump said before launching into a monologue about Lee, Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.

"He was going crazy. I don’t know if you know this story. But Robert E. Lee was winning battle after battle after battle. And Abraham Lincoln came home, he said, 'I can’t beat Robert E. Lee,'" Trump said.

Making the CSA Great Again. Sounds like 45 and his followers. Is anyone surprised by this?

Robert E. Lee was a ****ing traitor who should have been hung in public.

Trump was in Ohio, and the clowns who cheered are laughably pig-ignorant of the fact that Lee and his army killed thousands of Ohioans.

**** Lee, **** his memory and **** treason.

No great enough. He lost the war.

And anybody that believes anything Trump says about history is a fool.

Lee was a great general, one of the greatest in us history, however he had one weakness, general grant. General grant knew general lee, his strategies and how he operated. This was because they both served together with lee staying in and grant being discharged for misconduct, with lee loaning him money to return home. Lee and grant were both officers then with grant being a lower rank.

By the end of the civil war with general lee surrendering grant as a first act paid him back the money he borrowed years prior, that shows they knew eachother very well, and that grant would have never been a name were it not for the fact the civil war broke out and grant getting called back into service.

It is quite amazing the the top generals on both sides were friends and had fought together in a previous war, and that general lee's superior brilliance could only be countered by someone who fully understood it, which happened to be grant.

I don't think so. Call him and POTUS out by their bigoted, racist beliefs. And it certainly tells us what out president truly thinks about AA's and his view of the US.

Of course you know it was Lincoln who originally asked the great Lee to command the Union Army. Lee is the only General throughout history that was offered full command of both sides of an opposing force.

Not really a traitor. Lee actually didn't want to fight against the U.S., but decided to side with his home state of Virginia.

The CSA was formed due to their perceived fear over the U.S. threatening their way of life. Slavery was a big part, but it isn't the complete reason.

You need to learn how to let things go; history is that - history, it was their time, not ours. The best we can do is learn from history, its one of the best teachers, yet many choose not to listen, nor head. In strategic and tactical terms, General Lee was a great General; that he served on the opposing side - not relevant to his abilities.

Robert E. Lee could speak in complete English sentences, unlike the orange fool.

LOL! No amount of asinine rationalizing on your part will change the fact that he took up arms against the United States.

I know this might be hard for some people, but Lee was a traitor, full stop.

I don't agree with Trump here. For the Confederacy, he was great. But I think Lincoln and Grant were far better, as we won obviously.

I'm not holding on to anything. No one is claiming it's not 'their time' or that it's 'our time'.

The best we can do is not honor treason and traitors

Agreed - slavery was not the CAUSE of the Civil War; please state the main issue that was the cause.

Thats the reason. I do agree he was a traitor. The Confederate States was a traitorous alliance.

Slavery was indeed the cause of the Civil War. The Declarations of Secession made that crystal clear. You might consider reading them sometime.

Thanks for admitting that Lee was a traitor. Good to see you coming around.

Wrong. He was a fine man with honor, something democrats and journalist's aren't taught these days.

you have heard taped conversations of his? listened to his speeches?

He was a traitor. He fought against the US. He sided with the CSA. He fought to preserve slavery. He fought to keep his slaves. Slavery was the only reason. To state otherwise is disingenuous and a lie.

No. State's rights was also a reason. Read a history book. Slavery was a great part, it wasn't the entire reason.
