I read a poll of Brazilians in the US where more than 80% support Bolsonaro.

Brasileiros nos EUA votam a favor de mudanças | Agência Brasil

Agência Brasil spoke with voters in Atlanta, GA where the polling place processed 10.6 K voters. Most said they want the country to get better and not slide backwards.

Raissa Labotka drove six hours from Clarksville, Tennessee to vote in today's election. You can see the line in the background.

I was wondering why I was seeing so many articles on the state of Brazil being a dumpster fire lately. Guess an election would make sense, I have to say this Bolsonaro does not sound good for Brazil, sounds like a hardcore fascist.

Are they flying back to vote or are they voting from there?

Atalanta is the location of a Brazilian consulate where they can vote from abroad.

It is a shame how little we talk about Brazil here, or in fact any of South America.

I dont know what is going to happen here but my suspicion is that the fire has greatly impacted Brazil, and that this tends to favor The Rebellion.

They are just voting for the person who gets to add gas to the dumpster fire.

What people who say that tend to forget is that when what you are doing has failed to work after a reasonable amount of effort the only sane choice is to do something different....... play Pin the Tail on the Donkey if you have to, what ever you pick at least has the benefit of having a better chance of working than the proven failure you have now.

So that even includes electing what appears to be a fascist president? Electing far-right governments has never worked.

Almost everyone who uses the word fascist is too ignorant to know what it means, plus they tend to be hung up on labels placed for them by their betters because they cant figure things out for themselves....I take no interest in labels others made as I do my own thinking.

I hope that their new president can stabilize a very shaky political situation in Brazil.

Keeping in mind that the consensus is that the next global melt-down which will likely be a long depression will start in an emerging market....though personally I am liking Italy.

From what I have read he is actually a fascist, he has expressed admiration for the past military dictatorship including its use of torture, restoration of the death penalty, forced sterilization of poor people, beating of homosexuals, calls Africa and places like Haiti scum of humanity, among other things. He is authoritarian, racist, sexist, and homophobic. I am betting he will install himself as dictator soon enough.

AKA the wave of the future after the so called experts not only failed at their basic job duties but proved to be abusive narcissistic creeps to boot....

I blame them more than the fed up ignorant little people (All too often kept ignorant by power) who get to "ENOUGH!"

There is a reason the current order exists, people just refuse to accept that, and refuse to wait for any kind of effective reform. Instead they turn to radicals and turn a blind eye to the disappearance of rights, freedoms, and democracy because some far-right wannabe dictator made promises and claims anyone who opposes them are just obstacles to achieving what people want. Getting rid of liberal democracy is not an answer.

Nonsense...Americans for instance have been demanding reforms for a long time, we got ignored. Obama made that his top promise, that he would work to fix Washington, not only did he refuse to so much as make an attempt but he actively worked to destabilize the nation outside of Washington to boot.

No the old guard did not fail because they did not have the chance to do right, they failed because of some combination of lack of ability to do right and a lack of will to do right.

Americans and pretty much everyone for that matter refuses to actually do their part when it comes and vote for reform and then complain when nothing happens. Most people do not vote and when they do they just vote for the incumbent or uninformed no matter what, and after decades of doing that people wonder why nothing ever changed and things just got worse. It is very hypocritical for most people to complain about the direction of the EU when they have never voted in EU elections for example. When the votes don't change why would the politicians? A lot of that blame rests with the politicians, but a lot of it rests with the people as well.
