Florida Schools Ordered By Law To Display ‘In God We Trust’ Signs

The sponsor of the state House bill cited the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as one of the reasons for displaying the words.

Children heading back to school in Florida this month will have a new message waiting for them as required by law: “In God We Trust.”

An education bill signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott (R) in March includes a mandate that all public schools in the Sunshine State must now display those four words in each building that’s used by the district school board.

Statue Title XLVIII Chapter 1003 was approved by the state House in February by a 97 to 10 vote, after being sponsored by Rep. Kimberly Daniels, a Democrat from Jacksonville who runs a Christian ministry. Daniels cited the then-recent shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, for displaying the religious text, stating God is the “light” and “our schools need light in them like never before.”

Next it will be the Ten Commandments.

Why not, “In Allah, Elohim, Yahweh, Abba, El Elyon, El Roi, El Shaddai, Jehovah Rapha We Trust”, just to list a few names for the same entity. Just sayin.

People still constantly try to get laws passed based on their religious beliefs.

See: Stop gay marriage! Stop abortion! Stop transpeople from using the bathroom!

That's not a theocracy, that's people acting on their beliefs. Theocracy is Iran, dude. Get a hold of yourself. I doubt you're checking under your bed at night for the Pope.

Considering the fact everyone used coins back then it wasn't that big of a jump of our national motto going onto paper.

We have more than one national motto.

The new motto for the Left is "Out of one, many." That's diversity. It's what you do when you're trying to destroy a country.

Same place as the national gun ban

But no one is trying to create a theocracy, it's the Left's imaginary boogeyman. But with people like Feinstein and similar nutjob in Congress, they would ban guns.

Conservatives are not trying to officially declare America is ruled by the bible, they're just trying to pass laws from the bible and force them upon everyone else. It's not a distinction that makes me feel better.

Lots of the laws WE ALREADY HAVE TO CENTURIES come from the Bible. I still don't see you forced into a church at gun point.

If those things were implemented BASED solely on Christian beliefs, of course we'd be on our way to a theocracy.

It's called a Constitution and it gets interpreted OUTSIDE of religious bias. Or should.

Nobody ever said that rights and some religious beliefs were mutually exclusive.

There are many moral and ethical standards that cultures have in common, doesnt mean that all such things are based in religion.

Guess what? I'm a practicing Christian and there isnt a single thing in the Constitution...or the way that it has been interpreted...that prevents me from practicing all of my religious beliefs.

The concept of (a?) god is not specific to any single religion therefore no specific religion is being established.

Monotheism is being established, or even just theism in general. The belief in a single god is being promoted over the belief in multiple gods or no gods at all.

Guess what, some people want Christianity gone from the USA, like Iran wants Israel gone. They are THAT scared.

Well that's not possible, it wont happen, and it doesnt concern me at all.

As I wrote earlier, perhaps in a related thread...as a practicing Christian, there isnt a single one of my religious beliefs that I cannot exercise freely.

As with many other things, the Constitution protects me.

Based on what, exactly? Do you feel that Florida intends to establish a state religion and is just waiting for the right time to do so?

As I pointed out to someone else in this thread, God is technically not religious or religion so there is no conflict there. The ten c's would be a different story as they are religious and religion.

Monotheism is not a religion. Theism is not a religion.

They are the broad category of various religions. They are beliefs, which is part of religion, and considered protected.

They are not religions. Therefore, church and state does not apply.

If God could be trusted, none of the school shootings across the nation have ever occurred. Children in schools are like shooting fish in a barrel.

The Florida legislation and Governor is pulling a political stunt.

So many more important things legislators could do but they do this. What a joke*

Erisian cults are taught specifically not to trust their god, so I suppose there's an argument they are being excluded with this.

I suppose the state motto dodge will be sufficient to keep this up for some time. It's between the state and it's people. Who's worked up enough to do anything about it?

There are all kinds of beliefs that don't violate church and state. Hell, probably every school has some kind of belief posted in their school, such as they believe in honesty and integrity. Those are not religions and God is not a religion.

Those are not beliefs about things related to religion. God is a belief related purely to religion.
