The interim police commissioner accepted the officer's resignation Sunday evening, calling the actions "disturbing."

A Baltimore police officer has resigned from his position Sunday after video footage of him punching and tackling a civilian went viral over the weekend, the city's interim police commissioner said at a press conference Monday.

In the footage, which was tweeted by activist DeRay Mckesson, the officer can be seen repeatedly punching a man in the face, tackling him across steps, and pushing him onto the sidewalk, which he pins the man down to as the man bleeds from the face.

This newbie cop beats this black guy senseless: broken jaw, broken nose, 3 broken ribs. He may have been provoked (he had arrested the same victim before) but this was clearly excessive force. And the older cop with him did nothing until he had the victim's bleeding face pinned to the sidewalk. That cop is now on desk duty pending an inquiry.

horrible actions by the cop.

there is no evidence of racism yet you made it clear the victim was black.

yeah, watching that video re-enforces the idea that I'm just really sick & tired of police, and the brutality they force upon those they are supposed to serve .......

I think the 2 cops involved were black also.

Interesting how you avoided stating the newbie cop was black, yet you mentioned the victim as black? Why is that?

imo, the LEO was out of line. A full investigation should be conducted to determine if charges should be filled against the officer who has resigned. I am glad the person is no longer an officer.

Letting him resign is bad but worse was not criminally charging him when video and partner testimony evidence is readily available. Absent firing him and/or charging him with a crime he will likely be able to get another LEO job.

The victim can likely sue the city.

we live in a country of a two tiered justice system.
the rules do not apply to some like they do others.

Yep, and generate a huge payday for some lucky lawyer funded by the taxpayers. Meanwhile, the guy who beat the heck out of him can get a LEO job in some other place and create another lucky winner (or two).

There are enough rough bars in Baltimore that the ex-cop likely already has job offers to work as a bouncer. That video is his resume.

I'm sure he's terribly sorry that he offended you by mentioning the race of the victim.

PS: You could have scored an extra internets point if you had opened the article, looked at the freeze frames from the video, and then mentioned here that the officer was black, too.

Not likely - that 'history of violence' would make a lawsuit against the bar owner a piece of cake.

Isnt it up to the victim to press charges?

Baltimore police are very corrupt. I have lots of firsthand stories i could share about it. I lived and worked there for 15 years.
