A conservative activist crashed a campaign event for two Muslim candidates on Saturday, interrupting them with shouted questions about Hamas and “terrorist groups.”

Laura Loomer, formerly of the group Project Veritas, shared images and video of the incident on Twitter, calling the candidates "Jihadi" and writing that she was helping Minnesotans “break free from Sharia.”

It's one thing to nonviolently protest a campaign during its speech.

I'm not a big fan of the 'interrupt and shout out inappropriate questions' approach, by activists or white house pool reporters. However, the incident described above was a public forum with political candidates. That's not the same thing as chasing government staffers out of a restaurant as they are trying to eat with their families.

I sure as hell will. Inappropriate behavior is inappropriate behavior, and while the First Amendment may (rightly) protect you from legal censure, it's no excuse for being an assrag.

Also, as I have said many times, free speech is about more than just the First Amendment. There's also the civil virtue of free speech, where people respect and even defend others' right to speak without being disrupted, whether or not they agree with the speaker.

Loomer is a moron, and there's no reason to celebrate her bigoted Islamaphobia, but she's doing a pretty normal thing in the big picture - protesting candidates with which she disagrees. There's a long, long, long history of that in America.
