De Blasio slams Murdoch, Fox News: 'We would be a more unified country' without them

http://thehill.com/homenews/media/4...ws-we-would-be-a-more-unified-country-without

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) is slamming conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Fox News, saying that “we would be a more unified country" without their influence.

“If you could remove News Corp from the last 25 years of American history, we would be in an entirely different place," De Blasio told The Guardian last week before he spoke at an event in New Orleans, adding that he believes Murdoch is responsible for President Trump's election in 2016.

De Blasio says if it weren't for Murdoch and Fox News, "we would not be suffering a lot of the negativity and divisiveness we’re going through right now."

I couldn't agree more. 'Fair & balanced - you decide' is just so hypocritical coming from the mouths of Trump TV.

Hmmm. I thought that when a politician criticized the press (or rather, a slice of it) -- that was un-American, and bad. Even Fascist. But it's OK when it's a Democrat?

Oh my gosh this is so rich coming from Mayor Bill de Blasio.
A political hack as bad as they come.

De Blasio's Social Media Director Quits After 2 Months Working With 'Hacks'

Mayor Bill de Blasio's new social media director has quit — saying in a scathing Facebook post that he had to do it to save his own "health and sanity" from an office full of "political hacks plus a boss who just couldn't get it."

The rank and file of the New York police dept. despise De Blasio because his lack of any support of the officers in the field.

Cops protest de Blasio at slain officer’s funeral
Hundreds of NYPD officers on Tuesday turned their backs on Mayor de Blasio — again — at the funeral of a cop.

The disgusted Finest were assembled outside the World Changers Church in The Bronx on Tuesday as part of the overflow crowd of mourners for assassinated Officer Miosotis Familia.

They showed the building their backs as speakers broadcast de Blasio’s eulogy for Familia from inside.

The protest came after de Blasio skipped town to participate in protests at the G-20 summit in Germany last week — the day after Familia was killed by cop-hating gunman Alexander Bonds.

As far as Fox news, let the ratings speak to that!!

FNC has been the most-watched cable news network for 66 consecutive quarters. Fox News averaged 1.4 million total day viewers compared to 930,000 for MSNBC and only 658,000 for CNN. During the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m., Fox averaged 2.4 million total viewers compared to 1.7 million for MSNBC.Jul 3, 2018

Trump drives them crazy and so does FOX news

*SNORT* De Blasio thinks NYC is like the rest of the country. Rich.

No, that's not accurate. Anyone can say whatever nonsense they want to, in areas where they are not prohibited. They can release a book, start a website, send out a mailer, run a cult church brick and mortar, give speeches to a university...the idea that this is oppression, is absurd.

What it is, is discrimination, against lies/nonsense. As long as you primarily value reality/true to make important decisions about the nation, nothing changes. If you really want lies/nonsense to be front and center to making choices about policy, things that affect your health, finances, etc., then yes, you'd be oppressed. Just as criminals are oppressed. Just as junk science is oppressed. Just as hateful, vocal racists are oppressed.

In science, an opposing idea is also irrelevant. What matters are two primary things:
1. are they using good evidence (repeatable testing, math, experimental data, etc.) to show something is the case.
2. are using good evidence to show something someone else has claimed is the case, is not.

Such systems have led to unprecedented volumes of truths about reality to be available to the public/world, the opposite of systematic oppression.

You can see this in medicine. Trying to market the supplement Airborne, as something that prevents or cures a disease, is prohibited by law. This is not systematic oppression. Anyone can promote any drug, as long as it is verifiably true. If not, they cam still make, market, and sell it (! not oppression at all), they simply can't sell it as a drug (cures or prevents, etc.)

You can see this in journalism already. In this case, journalistic code of ethics, ombudsman, and a decent culture around it., help to differentiate certain types of journalism from some random person spouting nonsense (Alex Jones).

Alex should be allowed to find a platform and spew his nonsense to an audience, that's not the issue. He may need to adopt something similar to a food label though...or a drug label, or a political add notification of who paid for it...they may need to disclose certain facts about their product, up front.

Just like nearly every industry in the U.S. So no, not oppressed, unless you label everything "oppressed", in which case it's moot.

Science has nothing to do with anything in this thread.

The topic is specifically about NYC mayor Bill de Blasio's belief that the world would be more unified if certain different ideas didn't exist, the fact that such a world unified in singular groupthink does not naturally exist, and that the nightmarish authoritarianism necessary to actually achieve such a reality far and away negates any benefits conferred by whatever "unity" it might create.

For fox news numbers though one has to realize on conservative media on tv, fox has no competition, all other cable networks have a left leaning bias, and whether you are conservative or a moderate or even just anyone who likes to view all sources and decide for themselves, fox will always get many viewers. The only way they could beat fox at this point would be to actually push for another conservative cable network to divide up ratings that fox has a monopoly on.
