The family of a missing University of Iowa student now believes she is being held captive and has increased the reward for her return.

An earlier lead about a possible spotting of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts, who disappeared on July 18 after going for a jog, has been ruled out, authorities announced Thursday.

Mollie Tibbetts' parents and boyfriend had a direct message for possible kidnappers at a press conference Thursday morning.

"We believe that Mollie is still alive and if someone has abducted her we plead with you" to let her go, Mollie's mother, Laura Calderwood, said.

There are some sick freaks out there. We need all ears and eyes in Brooklyn.

Heartbreaking for her family, terrible situation. Feel for all parents in situations such a these. I would leave no stone unturned if I ever had a loved one disappear and wouldn't give up. I would use whatever avenue is available to spread the word and get the message out there to try and find them. As bad as social media can sometimes be at times, it's an invaluable tool in cases such as this. You can spread the word immediately to a massive audience once people start sharing.

I hope she is found okay.

Sounds like a whole lot of assuming is going on.....silly assuming....wishful thinking......she is either not wanting to be found or else she is dead almost certainly.

Pandering to grieving loved ones gets to be a bad idea real fast.

Yeah, that's what they told Elizabeth Smart's folks and the families of those 4 women in Ohio and numerous others that do turn up later.

How dare we pander to these people in pain!
