The president is sending other countries threatened by Moscow a message that ‘You’re on your own,’” one British MP said.

WASHINGTON ― European lawmakers say President Donald Trump’s stunning news conference on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message to other countries with democratic political systems similarly targeted for interference by Moscow that they cannot count on the U.S. to stand with them.

“To deny evidence [of Russia’s meddling in the U.S.] is effectively to say to other countries who are victims [of] this... ‘You’re on your own,’” Damian Collins, a Conservative Party MP in the United Kingdom, said at an election security event hosted by the Atlantic Council in Washington.

That's right, Western Europe. You can't count on Trump to bail you out if the Russian Bear gets rough with you. That's the message everyone got from Helsinki, including Putin.

Good, it has been a several decades project of America trying to get the Europeans to get their **** together and start pulling their weight....Trump is getting them to finally wake up to the fact that we are likely going to dump them....this scores as a WIN!

With the German's dependence on Russia alone, all we have to do is sit back and watch. The rest comes from within. Other European nations are a dime a dozen. Who cares. The Brits... we'll have to see about that.

The whole of Europe is getting undone, Merkel and her idiotic "Ya all come, we would LOVE to have you" towards primarily Muslims was the inflection point but a weak EU foundation and decades of otherwise shoddy work by the leaders is driving this melt down.

The Quality of the work matters, so many of these Modern Morons never grew up enough to learn this, which is really sad because I knew certainly by the age 12 that this is so.

Even now go read the so-called journalists...almost none of them act anymore like they understand that the quality of our work matters.

Infantile and ignorant are the words of the day.

sad

Listen to the glee as rightwingers gloat over us ditching our allies in the free world to toady up to Russia and NoKo.

Why would anti-Brexit, pro-illegal immigrant, anti-Trump protester Damian Collin's statement surprise you?

Ditching our allies? Seriously? lolz

Heck, I hadn't heard that pearl regurgitated by the anti-Trump rumor mill yet. Too funny.

There are a number of reasons to be concerned about Trump's seemingly purposeful attacks on Europe, the EU and our European allies. Trump has proven that he cannot be trusted even by his own government. Trump has left no doubt that his preference is a strong US - Russian alliance. I cannot imagine that, but that is clearly where Trump wants to be.

The United States depends on intelligence from allies from around the world. Access to intelligence provided by foreign governments is vital to the safety of the United States here and abroad. It is vital to the safety of Americans here and all over the world. At some point foreign governments and foreign intelligence sources must make a decision whether to share vital and extremely secret/sensitive information or not. When it comes down to it they have to decide how vital the information is and how great the risk of being compromised will be. Trump's behavior and instability in the recent past and in Helsinki must surely have put the United States at great risk.

The US is a trusted partner with other nations or we are not. Trump continues to create justifiable doubt among our allies and other intelligence sources.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Lots of people have noticed Trump alienating your former allies, and are worried about the survivalof the western alliance.
Your boy Trump is isolating the US, and seems to be doing it deliberately. Did you notice Putin's smirks?
It's gotten to the point where people are hoping the US just pulls out of NATO so the rest of the alliance will have heard the last of his shilling for American defense contractors.

Israel for one won't make the mistake, again, of trusting Trump with sensitive intelligence.

It's no wonder you idolize Trump. You're as clueless as Trump.

The thing is, Germany really isn't that dependent on Russian gas alone. It only gets about a third of it's gas from Russia and the rest from Norway, Qatar and the US. But gas only makes up about 20% of their energy portfolio because they also have coal, renewable energy and nuclear power.

They have no idea what the downside to this is farther down the road. Can't think that far ahead.

Ditching is only equivalent to wanting them to pay their fair share if one really wants to make a partisan point.

Yes, but they were reminded of the fact. So why is that equivalent to "ditching allies" or crawling up the Russian's rear?
If you look at the hyped up talking points from both sides, and dig a bit deeper without the partisan glasses, you will find that the world isn't coming to an end just because Putin and Trump met.

if you had done your homework on Germany I wouldn't have had to correct you. So why anyone would believe a misinformed partisan such as yourself is beyond me.

Insults make for a lame argument.

So take off your partisan blinders then maybe your arguments wouldn't be so lame and insulting. .

You mean the same ones who grow ever more dependent on Russia for their energy needs? I'm so sorry that they will need to cut their vast social programs in order to fund a proper defense of their own countries... :boohoo:

How many elections has the US meddled in. Hell we have taken out leaders of countries.

What kills me the most is that none of their anger is directed at obama who was complicit in allowing it to happen.
