Looks to me like she thought they were walking to the left and he thought they were walking forward. Awkward, but I don't see it as him being rude. He's done and said things MUCH ruder.

And they shook hands instead of bowing? For shame!

Note that most U.S. journalists aren't talking about it or the protests outside. They are focusing on the indictments.

So, yeah, it would be a good idea to not make a big deal of this.

I think we should all should all be thankful and breathe a collective sigh of relief he didn't grab her by the ***** and say "even though you're an old broad now, you were at least a six and a half when you were in your prime."

Considering what England has shown the President, I have no problem with this.

I doubt this is the first time he has "met" the queen.
 
I think virtually every president who has met the queen has committed some gaff according to British protocol. Some gaff committed at some point seems to be the rule for presidents, rather than the exception. We could make a big deal of it, or we could focus on substantive events.

My only surprise is that he did not pat her on the back or ...
 
Was he so arrogant as to give her the gift of copies of his speeches? Did he gift her dvd's that don't work in the UK?

That was my thought. It was an awkward moment, but a brief one. They were obviously looking at something to the left, and he wasn't even walking particularly fast. He even stopped for a moment to see what she was doing.

As far as the 'bow' -- a head of state isn't supposed to bow to another, at least in European custom. (Other parts of the world do a mutual bow to show respect). The queen doesn't bow to anyone, and neither would a head of state meeting her.

This is more silliness.
 
Let's give him credit where credit is due - he didn't grab her by the you know what!

I think I can be ready by then. Have to change out a light fixture by the garage and make some lunch, but that shouldn't take too long.
