On arriving at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Wednesday, President Trump wasted no time in going after Germany with one of the most pointed public criticisms of an ally ever heard in the annals of the Western alliance, stunning both European and American observers.

“Germany, as far as I’m concerned, is captive to Russia because it’s getting so much of its energy from Russia,” Trump told NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in a blistering on-camera exchange that reportedly left the head of the alliance sputtering. “We have to talk about the billions and billions of dollars that’s being paid to the country we’re supposed to be protecting you against,” Trump added.

Right out of Putin's play book. Putin is getting back exactly what he payed for.

I have not voted for a winner in the POTUS election that I can remember. I am very accustomed to having voted for the losing horse in that race.

But I have always wished the victor the best of luck in doing the right thing for this country, and in most cases I have been let down by the actions of the man.

With Trump, I wished him the best of luck too, hoping that he would restore dignified and non-belligerent relations with Russia. That would still be fine with me.

Russiagate existed only by way of political (and more) propaganda. There ARE people in government who want the public to perceive Russia as the enemy, and take overt actions to achieve that.

I do not respect Trump, but if he accomplishes détente with Russia, I say Right On!
