The man, identified as Laurence Wayne Key, called the congressman’s Washington office, telling an intern who answered the phone, “I’m going to find the Congressman’s kids and kill them. If you’re going to separate kids at the border, I’m going to kill his kids. This occurred a week ago, but I read about it only last night. So in review, Sec/Homeland Security was hounded out of a Mexican restaurant, Sarah Sanders was asked to leave a restaurant, Florida AG Bondi was harassed at the movies, and in multiple instances now, little children have been threatened.

Now is the time for American citizens, irrespective of political lean, to stand up and say that this just isn't right.

There is something terribly wrong in the country when News organizations and political leaders are basically silent on this issue.

It seems there is so much hate for Trump that people actually would like to see violence and then blame him.

Not sure how this ends.

The two aren’t actually mutually exclusive. A triggered snowflake could well become a terrorist.

In the article, Key denies making the death threats. Very interesting. Are there voice tapes to back up the accusation? Key did say that he told the Republican intern that, if children are separated at the border, then the congressman should be separated from his children. However, the accusation against him says that he told the congressman's intern that he was going to kill the kids.

I need more information. Knowing whether or not the conversation was recorded would be very helpful. Since he was arrested, I am assuming it was.

That's my guess, but details are still emerging.

From the Daily Mail:

He has called Congressman Mast's office 478 times and also contacted Senators Marco Rubio Bill Nelson the same day as he allegedly made the threats.

When interrogated he denied threatening to kill the three kids aged under eight, just that he should be separated from his children if he supported President Trump's immigration policies.

To be fair, threats of violence are neither new nor are they rare. The relative anonymity of the telephone once facilitated this stupidity. Now, Facebook, Twitter and other apps add to the tools an idiot can use. Heck, they don’t even need to find a phone or have a dime to make the call anymore. Technology allows the spontaneous idiot an ability to show the world how stupid they are within seconds of the thought.

Correction: if one has never said that threatening to kill children is wrong, then now is the time for them to say it. There really isn't enough time in the day to individual denounce every instance of a bad person doing a bad thing, even if we restrict the class of bad things to those related to politics.

So I think we can just assume that people of all leans (other than bad people) think that this is a bad man who did a bad thing without demanding they make a show of saying so, eh?




There have been far too many threads started here where the OP demands that people of all leans show up and denounce the bad man. Invariably, people then show up and try to make hay out of the fact that in their personal opinion, not enough people of the same lean as the bad person's showed up to denounce him, therefore yadda yadda.

Sometimes what’s not said can speak just as loudly as what is, plus I think the idea is that condemning crackpots on your own side maybe carries more weight and harder to dismiss as mere partisanship.

The OP mentioned a few things. I agree that I don’t think anyone worth giving a damn about, regardless of lean, is ok with threatening kids. Tossing Sarah Sanders out of a restaurant, though, or harassing the Florida AG at a movie theater don’t seem as broadly agreed on.
