President Trump Will Fully Pardon Dinesh D'Souza

That'll take an Article 5 convention. Congress can't amend The Constitution by itself.

I know the process. Congress would have to agree and the states would have to ratify. Trump is pushing the pardon power to places no one ever considered possible.

From your own right wing nut job article...

"Dinesh D'Souza plead guilty this morning to one count on federal charges detailed in an indictment accusing him of violating campaign finance laws and making false statements. D'Souza admitted in front of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, that he did, in fact, ask two people to make contributions in their name and later reimbursed them, knowing it was not proper under the law. "

So now you're just legally allowed to break the law so long as you did it in support of Donald Trump.

It wasn't the crime he committed that was problematic, it was the level of the punishment that was meted out. If you want partisanship, just look at the difference between what he received and what other people convicted of the same crime received. This is correcting a partisan sentence, not forgiving a crime.

Pardon dangling, more evidence of obstruction.

It wasn't that he did not do the crime... but the punishment he got was significantly more than anyone had ever got for the same charge. No one in history had gone to to jail for doing what he did at the amount he did.the equivalent of getting jailtime for a seat-belt violation and no prior history.Liberal or Conservative.... it was wrong.

Was his conviction and sentencing legal? Did the judge follow the law? Then why are you saying the president should override the judiciary with an obviously politically motivated pardon? Worse, it appears to be pardon dangling for his cronies that have the FBI all up in their criminal business.

Liberal or Conservative.... it was wrong.

That is what the left won't admit--selective prosecution and sentence for a high profile conservative when the same is not imposed on low profile or left wing offenders. D'sousa did break the law in the 2014 midterms by asking two friends to donate $10k each to Wendy Long in 2012 and then he reimbursed those friends for their contributions. This is a felony offense punishable by up to two years in prison. (D'sousa got 16 months on a plea deal.)

Rosie O'Donnell is also high profile and was widely mentioned in the media that she had exceeded legal contributions multiple times. Her explanation (and shrug) was that she doesn't pay attention to how much she is donating. She expects the candidates to return anything over the legal limit. Was she indicted, tried, and convicted? No. She wasn't even charged? No.

Rosie O'donnell is a liberal/progressive contributing to liberal/progressive candidates.
Dinesh D'Souza is an outspoken conservative contributing to a conservative candidate.

Selective prosecution and punishment based on people's politics is not okay any more than selective prosecution and punishment based on race or religion or any other unrelated criteria is okay.

Really strange how no one has replied to this, and everyone seems to just be in full outrage mode.

I didn’t respond because when weak and dubious claims such as these are made and I ask what they’re based on, I invariably don’t get an answer.

So Dinesh knowingly committed a crime, got less than the maximum prison time and didn’t have to spend a day in prison.

And you feel this is unjust because...?

Perhaps, but I see opinions like celticwar's to be at least as valid, and probably more so since it's verifiable, as those proclaiming pardon dangling, or whatever the term was.

If Celtic feels like substantiating his claim he’s free to do so. Since you’ve taken it upon yourself to argue for his position, perhaps you’d like to source his claims instead?

This is intended to send the same message as the pardon of Scooter Libby. Later Trump - when his own people have their convictions for campaign finance violation - Trump will claim its an unfair law and not fairly enforced and cite this as a precedent for him taking action.

Ray Charles can see this coming and he has the disadvantage of being both blind and dead.

That is how amazingly unsubtle and obvious this idiot is.

The past year, Dinesh D’Souza has:
  • Suggested the Charlottesville rally was staged
  • Shared a meme calling Obama a “gay Muslim”
  • Suggested Michelle Obama is a man
  • Started a conspiracy theory about the Vegas shooting
  • Defended Adolf Hitler as "NOT anti-gay"

Welcome to the new Republican Party. These may not be spoken beliefs, but if you are a moderate like me who questions these very stupid positions to hold. You will not have a place in the party and deemed "libural" for life.

You know the answer. He loves his movies.

It is unjust because nobody else is prosecuted in that way for the same crime. You no doubt deliberately omitted the rest of my post that explained and illustrated that.

So that made his conviction and sentence 'selective prosecution' based on his politics instead of being based on his crime. If everybody who commits the same crime was charged, convicted, and sentenced, then nobody at all would have had any quibble with the wrath of the government coming down on d'Souza. The ONLY reason d'Souza was targeted was because he is a high profile conservative very outspoken against President Obama and his administration.

That makes it as wrong as the police targeting black people for extra scrutiny and/or arrest while giving most or all white people a pass.

Per the bold:

1)There is zero evidence that that is true. The judge in his trial found zero evidence for unfair prosecution.
2)Dinesh admitted to knowingly committing a crime.
3)He didn't serve a day in prison.
4)Even his sentence was less than the maximum sentence for such a crime.

When you look at the facts, your belief that he was prosecuted unfairly looks pretty weak. Are you sure you're not just upset over his getting caught because he made movies you like? Because when you factor in the above points then your position makes no sense unless it's because you just like his politics.

How am I arguing for his position? That's silly. I just observed that he provided an explanation different than what was being presented by the outragemongers and it was being ignored.

You have proof of all these assertions re D'Sousa of course, and aren't just using leftwing hate sites for your information? And even if you do, shall we choose any number of prominent Democrats and list all the nonsensical and/or inflammatory and/or just pain dumb things they have said as proof they should be convicted and go to prison?

This thread is about a crime that D'Sousa was accused and convicted for and whether it was appropriate for President Trump to pardon him. Can we focus on that?

I also ignored a homeless man outside my local supermarket who claimed the moon was made of feet. Sure, I could have gone up to him and demanded evidence for his claim, but I was busy.

I'll stand by my post.

I'll stand by my post.

You're perfectly free to stand by any belief that doesn't line up with the known facts. But your freedom to hold a belief doesn't make that belief any truer.

Congrats?

I love how crimes are more serious to you, but when Roseanne says racist things she should just keep her job like nothing happened b/c freedom of speech.
Sorry I'm not digging up everything for you to please your twisted sense of righteousness that you'll just turn around to fit your narrative instead of saying how bad these positions are to hold.

It's not just crazy positions to hold. this is who D'sousa is. He is a racist conspiracy theorist who has not stopped believing the hateful things that come out of his mouth. I dare you to find one Democrat who is not a comedian who said anything close to any of this stuff.
