:lamo

That DA wanted to lock me up for my crimes.

Good thing the president's my buddy, eh?

That's fine... but if you have an entire history of equivalent violations and no actual change to the law has happened, and his punishment was significantly worse than anyone who has ever been charged. That's a violation of justice... people should be given equal punishment under the law, unless a law passes that changed policy of course.

Doesn't happen.

People with more money get better outcomes in the criminal justice system by a wide margin.

Just being able to make bail has a huge impact.

Oh wow, if a judge payed by the government didn’t find political bias in the selective trial of a government dissident well that’s it then, issue resolved

That's pretty silly right there.

Which government would he be working for?

Does it change by administration or do judges just toady to whoever is currently in power?

Which is why she gave the system multiple addresses and variations of her name, not to confuse the system into allowing her to donate more money Im sure. But unlike D’Souza O’Donnell has the advantage of being discovered when the swamp is being drained and so the Trump justice department won’t persecute her

She's a trump supporter isn't she?

So she gets a pass.

Like they all do.

So commutation would have been more appropriate.

That addresses the sentence without handwaving the underlying offense, as he did here.

Definitely "don't worry, stay silent, and I'll just pardon you."

Incorrect. Commutation of a sentence already served is is not meaningful or "appropriate" for any purpose other to dodge dealing with the obvious: D’Souza is qualified to seek a pardon — someone who expressed remorse for his actions, and who fulfilled the terms of his sentence properly. Given that the original charge was inflated, mostly political, and/or the punishment excessive then pardoning is the ONLY recourse those who have completed their sentence.

D'Souza was clearly targeted, his offensive elevated to criminal rather than civil, and given the circumstances the sentence very excessive. It is very rare for someone to be charged with violating this law, but apparently other(s) got a much lighter charge and sentence:

"a prominent Los Angeles attorney, Pierce O’Donnell, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of making $20,000 in donations to the presidential campaign of former Sen. John Edwards and reimbursing straw donors." He was sentenced to 60 days in jail.

it may be that Dinesh was so hated by the prosecution for being such a dick for so long that they threw the book at him. I guess turnabout is fair play. Ever hear what that jerk says about minorities? Or about anyone that disagrees with his dystopian view of life and his apparent self-hatred of being an Indian in a white mans world? The guy is a total asshole.
