Two years ago, Melania Trump copied several lines in her Republican National Convention speech from an address Michelle Obama delivered in 2008. On Monday, Melania Trump formally announced the launch of an anti-cyberbullying initiative. As part of that initiative, the White House released a booklet that, in the words of Melania’s signed introduction, is intended to “help kids act thoughtfully and kindly” online. And, as BuzzFeed News’ Ryan Mac points out, it appears that the booklet was almost completely copied from a document released by the Federal Trade Commission in 2014.

While plagiarism appears to be a problem here, I am willing to give Melania a pass on this. After all, she is using material that has had some success in getting people to acknowledge that cyber-bullying is indeed a big problem. All I want is for her to put where this publication actually originated, and to have the credit go to the original author. I don't think that's too much to ask for, especially since she did not write the booklet herself. Let me add that I believe that Melania was blindsided here by someone in the White House, who took it upon himself to release it without giving credit to the original author. I honestly believe that Melania would not stoop so low as to steal someone else's intellectual property. I also believe that a Trump campaign speech writer wrote the Michelle Obama lines that Melania used in her convention speech, and she didn't honestly know about it.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Coincidence that they used the same booklet from the Obama admin. and made a change in the cell phone pic and then edited a few words in the intro?

That's what I hear.

She's copied everything from Michelle. Notice how there weren't many pictures of Melania and Michelle together. Though, it honestly could be her wanting to be like Michelle.

You didn't even look at the booklet, did you?

To be fair, people in politics almost never create their own stuff, but rely on others. I think the only thing Melania did wrong here was to make a mistake in delegating authority.

Yeah I don't think she has ill intentions. Otherwise if she did. It's pretty low and petty of Melania to do that intentionally. But she is a Trump...Maybe not so innocent.

I don't quite understand ... the 2014 booklet is a government "paper", so reusing it now requires an official statement that it is being reused?!?

Melania is one Ballsy Babe doing this with the way DJT behaves.

No wonder America is falling in love with her.

That's what I hear.

But, it's HER'S, Melania's FLOTUS platform. With over a year to implement you'd think she'd be better served by her staff than to use the former FLOTUS's material from a women's initiative and change it from Be Better to Be Best for own initiative. FLOTUS is not being well served by her staff.

El Wrongo................ Here is Melania's release, and it's not at the FTC web site. It's at the White House site, with an introduction by Melania herself, and it is made to appear that Melania created it.

I won't say that you are being dishonest here, because I think I know you. However, you are wrong. Dead wrong. This DOES appear to be plagiarized. The FTC addy at the bottom of each page was the giveaway that got people investigating the booklet and finding out that it was not hers.

The word is that Melania has been clear that she means to honor Mrs. Obama and has told her so personally, and one assumes Obama signed off. If Obama does not seem to care then I argue you should not either...there is no victim here.

I know many of you have no idea the time the First Lady Melania has put into preparing to launch her causes for kids. The media sure hasn't covered all the hospitals she has visited, the gatherings of experts on issues at the White House and beyond the past year. Heck International media has done a better job covering Melania than our own media. You would only know it if you followed her Twitter account because the damn media didn't cover it. Heck just yesterday the media was pushing a story about Michelle Obama telling a group of children she will always be their first lady.

Today Melania gave a very compelling speech of her goals. And it was backed with a year of research on how to proceed. I wish her the best in using her position to bring about a change to a lot of devastating issues that affect kids.

I'd say that in this case Melania has been made a fool of by her own staff...again.

And hats off to Mrs T for not doing yet another "for the girls" thing, for not being one to neglect boys as has become the fashion.

I dont know I am not paying that much attention but I do know that what ever Melania has been doing is working, America is falling in love.

I clicked on the booklet from your link in the OP. I didn't say it was on the FTC website -- I showed you that the FTC is cited on the pages at the bottom. There is nothing in it that says Melania is taking credit for the booklet. She did the intro -- that's very, very normal.

Did you see the latest polling? The first lady is soaring in the latest polls. That has to stick in the crawl of all those who have TDS. Not to mention the president's polls keep climbing too.

Did you hear the latest that Sarah Sanders was asked about a rumor if Melania Trump was living with her parents was true? Yes just hours before Melania was to announce her official plan for children the forking jackhammers in the media started rumors that she was living separate from the president.

I got to tell you Hawkeye the media, the extended arm of the Democrat party have lost all credibility.

That link was the original at the FTC web site. Someone on the White House staff copied it from the FTC web site to the White House web site, made a few changes, dated the new article 2018, and gave an introduction by Melania, which makes it appear that she created it. I'm not saying Melania is crooked. I don't think she is, but she needs to fire the person who gave the appearance that she is. Here is Melania's link.
