April should be prime walrus hunting season for the native villages that dot Alaska’s remote western coast. In years past the winter sea ice where the animals rest would still be abundant, providing prime targets for subsistence hunters. But this year sea-ice coverage as of late April was more like what would be expected for mid-June, well into the melt season. These conditions are the continuation of a winter-long scarcity of sea ice in the Bering Sea—a decline so stark it has stunned researchers who have spent years watching Arctic sea ice dwindle due to climate change.

That's right, deniers. What is happening right in front of your very eyes is a hoax. Just keep telling yourself that.

I doubt very seriously that anyone doubts that climates change. The part that is doubted is whether or not man has made something that occurs naturally, worse. So your "proof" is meaningless for that aspect.

I will say you have not seen Jack Hays or Lord of Planar... or comments from some of the other conservatives around here. It does seem to be very political

On whether or not it is man made, the science is in, and has been in for years. You have a choice. You can read peer-reviewed articles from Scientific American, Nature, Science Magazine, and similar publications, or you can believe the politicians and talking heads who claim it's a hoax. The choice is yours. Here is an article from Scientific American on a study done several years ago:

That climate change is mainly man-made has been clearly demonstrated in study after study. But there is actually some good news, also coming from Scientific American. Climate change is not the Apocalypse.

The climate change debate has been polarized into a simple dichotomy. Either global warming is “real, man-made and dangerous,” as Pres. Barack Obama thinks, or it’s a “hoax,” as Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe thinks. But there is a third possibility: that it is real, man-made and not dangerous, at least not for a long time.

We still have plenty of time to correct the man-made elements of climate change, but it needs to be done within a few decades. IMHO, I think it will be done many years before it's too late. The technology is already here, and the mean rise in global temperature due to man-made climate change is much less than what was thought a couple of decades ago, due to the finding that half the man-made global warming is being countered by aerosols, which contribute to global cooling. This gives us plenty of time to address the issue.

Yes, man-made climate change is real, but the sky is not falling at this time.

People have the right to believe what they want to believe; even in spite of evidence.

As a foreigner I am not surprised that some Americans continue to cling to their own beliefs despite evidence to the contrary. But that is their right to remain ignorant.

Oh, I am absolutely a believer in man-made climate change. That is why I am a proponent in firing up new nuclear power plants across the United States (and, presuming other governments are sensible, the planet) in order to help supply humanity's energy needs without emitting massive amounts of greenhouse gases. It's why I intend to vote for Michael Shellenberger for California governor (even though he will not win, simply for the fact that he has semi-original ideas).

I think anyone who is serious about tackling climate change needs to come to the understanding that nuclear is presently the best route forward to actually providing power and reducing carbon emissions, as wind and solar power do not come close to meeting humanity's growing energy needs. Nuclear provides the only safe, clean and long lasting alternative, and we have fuel to last us centuries upon centuries.

I generally stay away from the whole argument. My comment was simply to point out what I did. It wasn't meant to argue either for or against man made climate change.

"...a decline so stark it has stunned researchers who have spent years watching Arctic sea ice dwindle due to climate change."

They are stunned because they have very little idea what is going on, they only claim to.

There are a lot of Americans who have never really been that big on science. Propaganda, now that is their thing!

A different observation than scientists being so clueless about their area of alleged expertise that they admit to being shocked by the reality of it.

Well, you DID say I had no argument or proof. I merely presented it.

Go ahead, elucidate. Hawkeye.

Some (way too many) people need help to understand the English language I well know.

Let's assume for the moment you are correct. Go ahead, elucidate, Hawkeye.

It may well be worse than anyone has previously thought.

Underwater melting of Antarctic ice far greater than thought, study finds
The base of the ice around the south pole shrank by 1,463 square kilometres between 2010 and 2016

Hidden underwater melt-off in the Antarctic is doubling every 20 years and could soon overtake Greenland to become the biggest source of sea-level rise, according to the first complete underwater map of the world’s largest body of ice.

Warming waters have caused the base of ice near the ocean floor around the south pole to shrink by 1,463 square kilometres – an area the size of Greater London – between 2010 and 2016, according to the new study published in Nature GeoScience.

Did no one ever teach you how conversation works?

You were unclear in what you stated so of course the reasonable response is to ask for clarification.

I am so glad that I told my kids about 15 years ago to eat all the crab legs they want now "Eat em till you are sick of them if you want" because at some point they will get very expensive, and then they will get unattainable.

I was not unclear, I was poorly paid attention to, and you know how I hate that.....

Winter's over.

lmao...you know, Ap, it might seem like I pick on you, but I never ever want you to leave. Posts like this...gold. Cool new avatar, by the way.

Oh, your personal attacks are obvious.

Stand down, soldier, that was legit fondness.

Your cowardice is illustrated because you only go after people you perceive as defenseless. It's the typical preditor mentality. It's an attitude that permiates the Liberal crowd and it's what makes Liberal so unappealing to most people.

Ap. Read my lips: I wasn't dissing you this time.

Besides, I'm OlNate, everyone is defenseless against me... :lamo
