Trump credits Mexico for reportedly breaking up migrant caravan

While I don't entirely disagree with the scare tactic judgement, it is different than in previous years.

It's different because Donny told you to be afraid.

Trump's statement praising MX. was politically motivated against the Democrats in congress for not making our Immigration law tougher. That's all this is...

How do you want your immigration laws tougher? Looks like they're plenty tough as it is. Problem is, there's no political will to enforce them. All those illegal immigrants are employed by wealthy, influential people who make big bucks off cheap labour. Or little nickel-and-dime operators who couldn't afford anyone if they had to pay minimum wages and workers compensation premiums and conform to safety regulations. See, those illegal immigrants are being lured into your country by people who for sure don't want the pipeline closed.
Lotsa talk, lotsa threats, lotsa promises, that's all you'll get in the way of immigration law reform.

Show me the numbers.

I felt bad telling you to google it.

But this year was different. When the caravan of migrants set off on foot on March 25, instead of the usual 200 to 300 people, the group had swelled to as many as 1,600 migrants.

Last year’s caravan included about 300 people, with about 60 to 80 of those actually reaching the U.S. border at Tijuana, Arzate said.

Not only was it regular, but contrary to Trump's bluster it had nothing to do with "drugs" and we in fact took on the responsibility for people fleeing horrible violence after WWII. I hope I don't have to explain why we would do such a thing after WWII.

Trump's bluster was just more of the same-old race-baiting that infested the last presidential campaign.

I don't know if Trump was race-baiting, but he was certainly throwing "illegal alien/Mexican" meat to his America 1st/White Nationalist base.

But that's what I meant. I suppose the more specific version would've been "race-baiting/dog-whistle mix".

He simultaneously says things that a racist would say about a group - just not explicitly as the racist would say it - and then they think he's one of them. They love it and agree because they actually do think all the illegals are junkies, murderers, rapists.

He's been doing it all along. Keep it just vague enough that someone who might take issue with "real racism" (those are air quotes) don't object because they really want to support him, but make it explicit enough that the racists nod and smile. Those concerned with racism point this out. Then, in turn, those who didn't object start attacking those who pointed it out as "playing the race card" (not air quotes). This further erodes concern about potential racism, which in turn emboldens racists.

It has played out across DP, starting soon after I got here.

Is Trump himself racist? I don't know and I don't care. I care that he knows exactly what he's doing in this regard. Conning people is his one true skill. Since he's President, not some tacky failed casino mogul, it affects us all.

President Donald Trump on Thursday celebrated the move by Mexican authorities this week to break up a large group of migrants making their way north towards the U.S., claiming credit for a reduction in illegal border crossings while insisting that such crossings remain too frequent.

“The Caravan is largely broken up thanks to the strong immigration laws of Mexico and their willingness to use them so as not to cause a giant scene at our Border,” the president wrote online. “Because of the Trump Administrations actions, Border crossings are at a still UNACCEPTABLE 46 year low. Stop drugs!”

So now 'strong immigration laws of Mexico' suddenly exist? I don't recall that being his pitch a few days ago.

I think he is realizing he won't get the wall. So he is trying to come up with a way to distract his base from it. I don't see Ann Coulter being pleased with this poor attempt at distraction though. She wants to see the border red with blood. Teach those brown people a lesson. Nothing else will do.

Republicans hold the presidency and both branches, WTF are they doing? LOL It's the democrats fault the republicans can never do anything. Hysterical

You do know congress works don't you?
The party of no is screwing uo their chance for immigration reform.
They should stop being the party of no and actually support something for a change besides amnesty.

Not surprising to me that a group of political protesters whos goal was to get to the border and then protest at the border was broken up for political purposes.

You guys are just too funny. You're upset that Trump congratulated Mexico for something? Really?
