Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt said that he was “dumbfounded” that people found his decision to rent a condo co-owned by the wife of a top energy lobbyist to be controversial.

“I’m dumbfounded that that’s controversial,” Pruitt told the Washington Examiner about the rental agreement.

Pruitt has faced criticism over the deal to rent the condo for $50 a night last year. The EPA said that the agreement met the agency's ethics guidelines.

This guy is a con man. He personifies the swamp that Trump described draining.

None of this was a surprise to liberals during the campaign. We knew that Trump’s claim about bringing ethical standards and hiring the “best people” was just a sales pitch. The people appointed are the most corrupt ever brought into the White House while also the most antagonistic to the departments that they are supposed to be running.

Whether he's actually dumbfounded, or simply pretending to be, it illustrates one aspect of the problem we face.

They either don't know they're doing something wrong, or don't care.

I guesss you didn't read your own article.
Ethics committee said it met the ethics guidelines.

End of faux outrage.

I can only imagine what you would write if Obama’s EPA head was staying in the home of the Sierra Club President for $50 a night and then ruled favorably on rules the Sierra Club promoted.

The article makes no mention of an “Ethics Committee.” It merely said “The EPA said that the agreement met the agency's ethics guidelines.” Gee, the EPA backs the guy who heads the EPA. In my best Jim Nabors voice, surprise, surprise, surprise.

I guess you misread the article.

We....We Americans have developed a very bad habit of doing things wrong....either we dont know that we are doing something wrong, or we dont care.

True.

Sunshine is the best disinfectant. The EPA secretary should know that.

And you have developed a bad habit of excusing the swamp instead of wanting it drained. You should get a refund for your “Eastern Training” you like to talk about.

Then either the ethics guidelines are wrong, or the ethics committee lied.

I'm going with ethics guidelines are wrong.

Because I think that's a problem throughout the country.

Speak for yourself. You don't speak for me or anyone I know in my circle.

And in Carson & deVos' cases, incompetent as well.

So you are giving him a pass because some ethics committee send it was OK? He accepted the equivalent of $$$ & in return helped push through an energy deal for his benefactors. He's a confidence huckster, a carnie taking the rubes.

every year every federal employee is supposed to receive a standards of conduct review and sign a document acknowledging they attended and understand what was presented
if that document, executed by the administrator, exists, then the fellow should be found to be a liar and made subject to disciplinary action
just like any other employee whose actions gave the appearance of a conflict of interest
https://oge.gov/web/oge.nsf/Resourc...conduct+for+employees+of+the+executive+branch

but it also appears pruitt also had his staffer perform personal services for him while on the government clock; something else which violates the standards of conduct provisions he has signed:
... The pay hike came after the 26-year-old staffer oversaw an extensive housing hunt for the administrator last year. Hupp at times conducted the search during office hours, according to a former EPA employee and others who interacted with her, activity that ethics experts said constitutes a violation of federal rules. ...

No, the article said, "the EPA said"...not the "ethics committee said"....

The EPA said that the agreement met the agency's ethics guidelines

..and Pruitt is the head of the EPA.

I am kind of lost on what topic you are trying to interject.

This isn't corruption seeing as it met with the guidelines. You and people like you are inventing something to whine about.

Please try and not deflect again. This topic was already boring enough without you sliding in.

Please try and not deflect-

These guidelines didn't come to us by Moses... the ruling came AFTER the story broke and was done by Pruitt's EMPLOYEE!!!!

News update- now that the poop has hit the fan ABC is reporting the employee now claims they didn't have 'all the facts'...

NO independent oversight committee or auditor. His own people claimed it met the guidelines AFTER the fact...

And just how much Kool-Aid must you drink to think getting a condo for 66% (OFF) the going rate from a lobbyist's wife is within any guideline...

But don't deflect- did you agree with Obama's DOJ not seeking any punishment for Hillary over emails????? :peace

You are still beating the same dead horse. You know that right?

First, I'd like to read the guideline that says that it's ok for an employee of the EPA to accept a gift (extraordinarily low rent) and then that same employee makes decisions that the landlord lobbied the EPA to pass.

There is always the objective to not only have no improper behavior but avoid the appearance of impropriety. This walks all over that and maybe the first too.

Second, this isn't the first time Pruitt skated ethical norms. He was sanctioned for abusing private jet usage when he used government planes for private trips.

I'd like to see Pruitt fired because he views his job as protecting industry from the EPA, bending over backwards allowing corporations to poison the air and water, which will result in illnesses and deaths of Americans. However, if his ethical lapses get him fired, that serves my needs just as well.
