[FONT=&quot]Democratic attorneys general in several states said Tuesday they would bring legal action to stop the Trump administration from adding a question on citizenship to the next U.S. census, a question they said would lead to serious undercounts that could reverberate for years to come.

THOSE BAS.. wait...

However, the 2000 U.S. Census long-form questionnaire, which went out to an “average of one in six households,” included questions about citizenship.

I’m not sure I see the issue. Yes, if the question asked if they were in the country legally it would cause a lot of people to just lie or avoid answering. But this just asks if they are a citizen and the majority of non-citizens are here legally so there is nothing incriminating about answering that question honestly.

They will lose this fight. They will lose the other idiotic fights in the courts that they have started regarding immigration. I seem to remember Schumer raising hell about DACA. He got the chance to work on a bill and obstructed any effort to debate it. Obama wanted to give 800,000 immigrants legal status. Trump offered more than double that (1,8000,000) and Schumer still wanted to negotiate using an "all or nothing" strategy. Since then Trump has pushed for an immigration deal and Schumer has been curiously absent. Maybe he doesn't want to reform DACA before mid terms so he can use it as a pulpit.

Of course the blue states will sue. They stand to lose tons of federal funding, courtesy of the taxpayers, if illegals are not counted as part of the population living there. It's fine for CA and NY to want all the illegal immigrants, but only if someone else pays for it.

So you don't want to count all the people when trying to figure out how many people live somewhere, got it.

Not to mention Texas.

If that's what you got out of my post  that's on you.

This is probably one o the reasons anti-American scum suck the testicles of illegals. Even though illegals technically can't vote these anti-American scum in office can use illegals to get more representation.

A census is a head count. If the census is not taken by a large swath of the population, it will be incorrect. If it's going to be incorrect, why bother taking it at all?

The purpose of the census is to determine how much representation a state gets. Its why its why we have census. Trespassers IE illegals shouldn't count since they are not supposed to be here in the first place.States shouldn't get extra representation for encouraging people to **** on our national sovereignty.

Don't want to put possible undocumenteds into a position of having to lie, I guess.

The census is taken the exact same way every year, no need to change it now.

If people who are here illegally are being counted and used by states to get extra representation then yes it needs to be changed now. States shouldn't be rewarded with extra representation for encouraging people to come here illegally.

Thats not within the authority of the census to do.

And more money. Those fighting anti illegal resident policies make the argument that not counting illegals reduces federal giveaways. Which is correct, and as it should be.

The census just asks the questions. They have no authority to act on anything.

But if you argue that the question(s) shouldn't be asked, that horse left the barn 230 years ago.

Only Congress can change it!

But what would they feel the need to lie about? Just check “no” next to “Are you a citizen”. There is nothing illegal about being a non citizen living in the US.

Show us where!

The purpose of the census is to determine representation. So it is within their "authority" to ask if someone is here legally or not.

Decennial U.S. Census figures are based on actual counts of persons dwelling in U.S. residential structures. They include citizens, non-citizen legal residents, non-citizen long-term visitors and illegal immigrants. The Census Bureau bases its decision about whom to count on the concept of usual residence. Usual residence, a principle established by the Census Act of 1790, is defined as the place a person lives and sleeps most of the time. The Census Bureau uses special procedures to ensure that those without conventional housing are counted; however, data from these operations are not considered as accurate as data obtained from traditional procedures.[5]
