ACORN disbanded years ago, but Republicans are nevertheless targeting the defunct group in their spending bill.
By Arthur Delaney and Zach Carter
WASHINGTON ― During the Barack Obama years, Republicans in Congress grew accustomed to kicking around one particular organization that advocated for the poor ― a group they claimed had been involved in a nefarious conspiracy to steal the 2008 election.

After nearly a decade, lawmakers are still at it, even though Obama is gone and the organization no longer exists.

They're still beating this dead horse.

Just last Nov....

One sitting US senator quoted by the Times, "who listened as the President revived his doubts" about the issue, "chuckled" when speaking about what was said. Trump "has had a hard time letting go of his claim that Mr. Obama was not born in the United States," the senator, who "asked not to be named to discuss private conversations," told The New York Times.

*ACORN-affiliated groups
Some chapters continued operations by severing ties with the national organization:

Members and staff of California ACORN founded a new organization, the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment.[13]
New York ACORN founded New York Communities for Change.[8]
A Milwaukee offshoot of ACORN called Acorn Housing changed its name to Affordable Housing Centers of America[14] yet has retained the same tax and employee identification numbers that it held under its former name.[115]
