Chicago students trash Walmart during walkout over gun violence

I raise: 5x the last bet.

Answer: because they're voting within 1 day to 2 years. They've been affected more severely than just about everyone else who weighs in on gun control.

That is relevant.

That a few of them were dicks in a Walmart is not similarly relevant to the issue.

No it is not relevant. Most of these pampered kids from the affluent suburbs have no clue what it is like to experience gun violence or armed crime in any form. Mass shootings are rare and mass school shootings are a tiny subset of mass shootings. It was the shock of the rarity of this event and the class of victims that made it news. 17 deaths from "gun crime" are not even front page news in many major cities - much less remembered one month later by marches or protests.

Control of violent criminals and the dangerously mentally ill is, indeed, important but putting them on "no gun" lists and allowing them to roam freely among us is not adequate control. In fact, the Parkland, FL mass shooter had neither a criminal record nor had been adjudged to pose a danger to himself or others. Other than his age, and before his final mass shooting event to gain attention, he would still be allowed to legally buy and possess guns in FL. Since he used only 10-round magazines the "style" of his rifle was not a factor either. There simply is no "gun control" that would prevent one that can pass a NICS BGC that would have prevented that mass shooting.

The idea that making it harder to legally buy and/or possess guns will stop violent criminals or the dangerously mentally ill from committing all manner of "gun crime" is highly doubtful. Most "gun crime" is suicide, gang hits or financially motivated to obtain wealth illegally and/or to eliminate witnesses. Very little "gun crime" involves rifles of any sort.

Officials said 79 percent of all murders committed in Houston in 2016 were a result of gun violence. Jehlan’s mom moved to Houston in 1997 and has seen the city change

“I feel like Houston is different today," she said. "The millennials just don’t seem to have as much regard for life. Their moral code is totally different. I don’t feel as safe walking around the city, because I know those people are also walking around the city.”

In short, like with every protest in the history of protesting, there will always be those few who go overboard and cross the line.

They may not be adults yet, but they clearly know how to replicate adult behavior.

That many, from one school is not what I call a few. Sorry, but I can't accept that. It is unfortunate that our young people let their frustration out like that, very unfortunate. They don't do themselves and their peers any favor. I don't think we should get all hysteric about the incident, but it doesn't help anyone, least of all these kids, to not recognize the significance of this.

You really should have gone ahead and used 'sambo' ink for this crap post!

Blue, really?

Invisible ink would have been preferable for posting such racist nonsense.

This is a strange combination of twisting my words and putting words into my mouth. There's also a whopping dose of obfuscation mixed in, seeing as I was criticizing Renae's attempted link between (a) protests about firearm legislation and (b) the fact that one set of students, in one city, were dicks in one Walmart.

Why would you do such a thing? It certainly isn't conducive to useful discourse?

I am doing such a thing because to both use them as a prop to get your way legislatively and give so much weight to their opinions should come with some forethought. Minors have long been accepted as members of society but, by the same reasoning, are not allowed to make decisions within a given society because of their lack of judgment.

Members of the Democratic caucus are using them to get their own ends, ends which will not have a large impact on school shootings. Maybe they should be more honest about that.

One could say that young people (millions more than these few pointed out by the op) are asking those in charge to do something about a massive problem, which to date has been ignored and prayed about. Are they not entitled to do so?

They are asking for a specific solution that will not fix the problem.

Little hellions...they should be made to clean up the mess on top of paying for the damage...

Why?...They were supporting trump's tariffs on cheap Chinese Steel.....More of these actions and Coal is coming back...Yeah Baby...

I'll ask just the one more time: what the hell is political about some idiot HS students being idiot assholes in one particular Walmart?

You went out of your way to mention that this had something to do with gun control protests following yet another mass slaughter of students at school, but you didn't spell the link out. Would you care to stop talking about me personally and explain what the link is supposed to be?

What does one thing have to do with the other? Did they smash glass displays in the gun section or something? It doesn't look like that. It looks like they were just hyped up ****heads. HS students, in other words.

What does this have to do with anything?

Because first, they should have been in school other than AstroTurfing.
Second, off and on campus they are to be closely supervised by the teachers.

Maybe the teacher was in Wallmart with them!

Hardly, "teens" is ebonics for "nigglets"

They need to bill the rocket scientists who organized this nigglet romp.

Wait a minute. Do the letters 'a.f-n' mean anything to you?

HS students committing petty crimes and being assholes is not at all shocking. Why on Earth create a thread about it?

Do you really have to ask? I should think her motivation is rather obvious.

Hint: eliciting comments along these lines. I am sure.

Well, when you take a dog off its collar, you can expect it to **** in your neighbor's yard.

uncool dude-really uncool

Thank you TD. I owe you one in kind. Check out the new Cornell youngsters when you get a chance, especially freshman Yianni D. at 141 in the finals tomorrow night on espn2 ...

Your yard's too small.

Not exactly helping their cause, is it?

But not as shocking, as disappointing. Some high-school kids use poor judgment, due to immaturity. Now they're on video & looking at misdemeanor charges. Stupid group think.

What race were the kids?

Trashed WalMart?...Hardly they were just supporting trump's stupid tariffs on China....

Once again Saladin, trying too hard and missing the mark at the same time. Only makes for poor expectations of your person.

HS students committing petty crimes and being assholes is not at all shocking. Why on Earth create a thread about it?

Because it pretty much shows what many of us were already expecting. many of these kids can't even be trusted with their own wellbeing and people somehow think using them as a political mouth piece is somehow acceptable.

Its not really a problem, we have crime that is true. But if it were really a problem that people wanted to fix. Why was it not dealt with in the last eight years?

These "millions more" are not really educated on the issue and are just spouting the same inane, nonsense that those who puppet them preach.

What race were the kids?
It was Simeon High, on the Southside. Pretty much exclusively African American. Tough neighborhood.

Why?

[It also was Derick Rose's (Chicago Bulls) alma mater]
