A 13-Year-Old Boy Planned A School Shooting, But Changed His Mind And Killed Himself Instead

Meh...just keep them in jail then....maybe making license plates or something else to contribute to their upkeep...yeah, it costs alot but think of the additional lives saved if they got out and reproduced again?

Hmm... LWOP because they failed to keep their stupid kid from texting while driving - does the texting kid get LWOP too? I guess any brothers or sisters of that kid lifer get screwed too unless they get lucky in foster care or adoption.

Well, wouldnt society and the other kids both be better off?

LWOP depends on the harm done. If you just had an accident, vehicle damage, maybe entire family does community service for a decade. Good public example.

You said that PARENTS should be punished for the crimes of their CHILDREN, not people should be punished when they break the law. Everything you are posting is punishing the parents for the actions of the parents, not punishing the parents for the actions of the children.

Not exactly - since the whole process only happens if the kid screws up.

Hell yeah! A life sentence will give them something to think about. Parole on one condition, state forced sterilization! That'll learn em, by golly!!!!

May you never be a public servant in the USA.

That is still pretty screwed up since the same felony negligent action (or inaction?) by the parents existed no matter how lucky (or unlucky) the stupid kid was.

Hm. That's a good point.

But does a drunk driver get the same charges if the kill somebody as they do if they just maim them or just wreck someone else's car?

Do parents of minors usually get charged with that when their kids commit suicide?

(I really dont know the answer, but I think they probably dont)

No, not for a typical suicide, but for bringing a .22 cal semi auto rifle? yes, they can be charged: what if he'd shot kids instead? Just the danger alone is enough to get a prosecutor searching for a reason.

Huh.

Here in WA St, 9 yr old brought in a handgun and accidentally shot (didnt kill) a classmate. The mother's live-in boyfriend was charged because it was his gun and he had a felony conviction, so he was prohibited from owning a gun, and she originally was charged with 3rd degree assault. But that charge was later reduced.

But they were charged, and nobody died.

One can get a DUI/DWI with no "accident" at all but it is not a felony the first time.

If you have a suicidal kid in your home then you need to secure that kid.

Sometimes people don't know they have a suicidal kid. Sometimes there are no signs at all.

Page after page of "the gun is guilty" or "the parents are guilty".
Does anyone wonder why the kid did what he did?

“When they interview my parents and ask how they didn't see the signs they should know it's not them it's me and it's because of how I see the world."

This is how too many kids see the world. Hurtful, chaotic and hopeless. That’s exactly what we need to act on if we don’t want a country producing fearful and angry kids who turn into mass shooters one day.

Thirteen years old. It sucks enough to be that age. These kids can’t imagine a future past their immediate pain. This makes me profoundly sad.

Agreed, and not all dangerous objects need be secured in the home "just in case" your kid goes crazy. For example, locking your car or gun cabinet is useless if the well behaved kid can ever get access to the keys (while you take a shower).

I've been trying to make this point elsewhere, on a related subject.

You dont punish parents...or everyone...for something that cannot be identified or prevented.

Well you certainly can lock your guns up and that does prevent your kid from shooting themselves with them. However, after someone's kid has committed suicide with one of their parents firearms, I think the parents have been punished enough.

Well the point I had been focusing on was that in many, even most?, cases of suicide, there was no warning/or no treatment or recognition of the risk.

I guess you don't have any.

uh-huh... you said they are called children because they need looking after... that is pretty funny. LOL

I take your ignoring my post and your false statement as Jet's admission of defeat.

Jet does this practically all the time... his fall back is to do what he is doing to me in above post.
