Two students shot at Salvador Castro Middle School, one in critical condition.[W:116]

There may be more guns overall due to collectors, but household gun ownership has been decreasing since 1972 and therefore reducing children's exposure to firearms overall.

Gun sales have been skyrocketing but gun ownership has been declining.

There is an easy way to fix this problem.

Yes there is a easy way to fix the problem.

Spend more energy on figuring out why more and more people want to harm others these days..........then go from there.

Stupid people would rather blame inanimate objects over the route cause because it is much easier.

It IS all the guns.

The fault in what he's saying is not that it isn't the gun, as you suggest. The fault in what he's saying is that while it is the guns, points about gun control as a solution are generally moot.

There are about as many legal guns as people in this country and who knows how many more illegal guns. The only way to truly stop this is to repeal the 2nd, move to England-like or Australia-like gun ownership restrictions, and go confiscate all the guns. Even then, even if all the law abiding citizens turned theirs in, the criminals would still have theirs. So you'd have to use the army (a massively increased army in numbers) to conduct an essentially country-wide sweep & clear program. But they cannot because of the 4th Amd.

So let's be honest. The guns ARE the problem, it's just they aren't going anywhere in reality. Therefore, saying "get rid of the guns!" and mocking the idea that "It's the gun!" are equally foolish things to do, but for different reasons.

There may be some things we can do to perhaps avoid some of the mass shootings, perhaps reduce gun violence somewhat. But generally it won't stop anything for the simple reason that Americans won't ever allow the government to do the kind of things that might just work - at least not in my lifetime.
Yep. Good post.

Listen, old timer,

Guns are weapons that can cause severe destruction. They should be treated like you would treat anything dangerous - alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc...

We need to create a GEA - A Gun enforcement Administration to treat this serious problem.

People like you are just like people in the 50's and 60s that had no issues with doctors smoking cigarettes in TV commercials. The science shows how addicting firearms can be.

We don't need to spend any energy on why more and more people want to harm others. It happened in the past, present, and will continue in the future. Energy needs to be spent in regulating guns and getting of rid of them.

Don't say we...... unless you have a mouse in your pocket or something.

LOL...... You have some pretty big gonads to declare that people don't have a right to self defense.

Again, you failed to answer my question of why the youth in our society are more violent than in the past.

Golf clubs are addicting, Fishing equipment are addicting, and cars are addicting, so why not guns to a collector?

Stop taking the ***** way out and answer my question on youth violence.

Yeah..............because there isn't a breakdown in morality, right Bucky?

It's the gun!

It's the gun!

You can be worse than removing old wallpaper some times.

No, because the country has gotten a lot meaner than ever before which is causing US to take better control of the guns in the country.

"Guns" are the thing!

Yep......................guns made them meaner!

Ignoring the fact that Americans own half the guns in the world diverts from the ease with which a twelve year old child can access a loaded "inanimate object"

What an ignorant and uninformed post.
The BATFE already exists.
Try and understand the real world before posting.

Gun sales have tanked in the last year.
Yet again you post lies, fake, and misleading information.
Research reality before you post. Seriously.

Our gun ownership not going to change. The adult(s) who own the firearm will have to deal with the laws covering access to minors.

Turns out she just dropped the bag containing the weapon causing it to discharge.

There is a national epidemic of Americans randomly mass murdering other Americans. It is tantamount to domestic terrorism. America needs national leadership to address the epidemic. Real solutions, not endless and tedious masturbatory committees with politically vetted “solutions”, are needed. Sadly, I don’t see the national will.

Not a mass shooting for one. And this is clearly a problem that should have been solved by better parenting. No national attempts are going to solve hormonal spats between dumbass teenagers.

We need stricter gun laws and enforce these gun free zones. The problem has been identified, let's get it done!!!

It seems like the problem is 12 year old girls who bring loaded guns to school, not loaded guns capable of jumping into school kids back packs and "unintentionally" shooting random people in gun free zones.

Other countries have mentally ill people, they go through the same problems we do yet those kids don't decide to shoot up their classmates or peers.

They do sometimes. Or they drive trucks through them. Other countries also have different societal pressures and different approaches to issues like teenage angst.

Honestly one of the biggest problems in America is the encouragement of the stupid narcissistic mentality that we see. Vine, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc ad naseum. “Do it for the vine.” I think we would see an improvement in our kids if we took their stupid ass cell phones away and actually taught them to interact with humans.

We are in the least violent point in American history actually. In fact...world history. Your argument there really doesn’t make any sense.

What about places like bars?

It might be cost-prohibitive for most bars to implement that kind of security or very close to it, but on the other hand I really don't think guns and booze mix. I certainly wouldn't want to stop in for a drink if I knew people were packing. I've seen enough hot heads cause trouble without being armed.

My guess is that if you live in an area where guns are allowed you encounter armed citizens several times a day without a problem.

Fact is that shootings most often happen in gun free areas.

you re the only one here talking about race. NBC covered this as their lead story tonight and there was NO mention of race. Its only your own obsession.

If there is no mention of race there's generally a reason.

Cell phones are inanimate objects, like guns, but you can't use a phone to shoot someone.

Where did you get that "fact"?

If you know anything about Westlake, California, you will know it is not a wild west type of area.

It will be interesting to find out more about this case.

How did the girl get the gun and more important, where did she get the ammo to use in the gun.

They would just continue, with different means.

Interesting perspective. When I was growing up there weren't school shootings and near monthly mass murders. You're saying we all had better parents. How is it that most of the school shooters and mass murderers are white? Using your logic white parents are statistically bad parents.
