Same time trump served.

Exactly. I didn't know that having served in the Military is a requirement to be potus. If it should be, we need to change our laws.
As an aside, perhaps everyone who hasn't served should withhold their opinions on any government matters. That is, if we don't want to come across like self serving partisan hypocrites attacking one person for not having served.

It doesn't remove the essential point of not passing the legislation in that window when they had 60, does it?

It shows you don't know what you're talking about. Plus the basic fact that President Obama wasn't inaugurated until 2009

Why wasn't DACA passed in 2008-2010?

He didn't need Republicans in that time frame. 60 in the Senate and a House majority. So why didn't they pass it again?
Dismissed for ignorance.

They didn't. Neither did Rex Tillerson. Why are we talking about people whose names aren't in the subject line?

Because some are looking for every little bit of nonsense to attack the president. They did the same during the Obama administration, and it wasn't very becoming then either.

He's the President. Clinton, Clinton and Obama aren't. I think everyone needs to get used to this. It isn't going to be a full time love fest, and Trump has to take the good with the bad.

I criticized Clinton for being a draft dodger. It was a fact. And it didn't concern me if it was becoming or not. Trump is no different.

We are allowed to draw comparisons, no?

I have not attacked any of them for not having served, even though unlike them I did. Actually career Military men make bad Presidents, seems that also applies to business tycoons.

What good, you get served your media marching orders of dumb crap to go after trump on and you dutifully oblige.

The past administrations are fair game when comparing the two. as the left blamed bush for everything bad that happened under obama's watch. the whole left wing 'cant talk about obama" argument is idiot and hypocritical.

Isn't that what trump and the Repubs are doing? So what is trump doing to get the Bill Passed, let's see his negotiating abilities, or is it his way or no way?

The Republicans are saying, "Let's pass this funding bill and keep the government running." The Democrats are saying, "No."

Why should Trump negotiate anything? He doesn't write legislation. He doesn't vote in the Senate. He just signs or vetoes what they give him. It's the job of Congress to negotiate, write and pass legislation.

You see, you keep trying to find some way to blame Trump and it's not working. This is all on Congress. This is all on Schumer. That's why it's called the Schumer Shutdown.

We are allowed to draw comparisons, no?

Of course. But let's compare everyone in the country who didn't serve, either. I also didn't serve. Does that mean I shouldn't opine?

He's the Commander In Chief, who also proudly boasted that he didn't like POWs. He's going to have to get used to the fact that many people have contempt for him because of that. He's free to resign and let Mike Pence take over if he doesn't like it.

I completely disagree with this. Eisenhower was a great President, IMO. And other business tycoons would make great Presidents. Trump isn't a business tycoon by normal standards, and he's just not up for the job.

Incoherent partisan babble.

Presidents who served in the military armed forces were commissioned officers. Several were generals.

NCO need not apply thx anyway.

Pence squirmed and wiggled his way around not serving in the military as he delivered his political speech on the shutdown to armed forces personnel who were required to attend while on deployment to a theater of active armed engagement and operations.

The retired army lieutenant colonel Sen. Duckworth was commissioned via Rotc at George Washington University. Given Sen. Duckworth served voluntarily the anti-Constitution Right needs to re-evaluate their understanding of their oath, the Constitution, and to recognize the fact the military exists to serve the society.

Civilians are your boss. Anyone who doesn't understand their oath failed to serve faithfully. Failed miserably.

Depends on your point of view, I give Eisenhower the blame for Vietnam and not ending the cold war, he failed the American Farmers, he failed to moderate the Republican Party, and he failed on Civil Rights. He was a great General, not so much as a President. IMO. Trump never was fit for the job and he continues to prove it daily, on that we agree.

Does he control Schumer?

Even the Great Cheeto thinks he's weak.

“A shutdown falls on the President’s lack of leadership. He can’t even control his party and get people together in a room. A shutdown means the President is weak”

-Donald Trump 2013

Rightwingers also cite Eisenhower's purge of immigrants to support the present Trump campaign to expel immigrants, build a wall and close the USA to the world of color outside it. Eisenhower who served during the racial segregation of the armed forces to include West Point hadn't cared much for people of color either.

JFK and LBJ combined reversed history to set USA on the present course of the so-called browning of America that has the racist right all worked up in the present campaign to arrest the course and to wall off the country against any more of it.

Sen. Duckworth was born in Bangkok Thailand to a Thai mother and American father so maybe she's from one of the ****hole countries Trump rages against to include the Trump Dancing Fanboyz.

LOL!!

Yeah...maybe you're right. Maybe Trump should have walked up to Schumer, slapped him upside the head and told him to get in there and vote for the ****ing funding bill...right? For sure, Schumer's headache would convince him that Trump isn't weak.

Seriously...back in 2013 Trump was commenting on an entirely different situation. His previous comment does not apply to the current issue. Toss that irrelevancy back into your bucket of crap that you like to toss against the wall. It doesn't stick.

Schumer would kick trumps arse, and we know trump does not have it in him to even try.

Trump is weak in many areas, negotiation and leadership seem to be two of the most glaring, unless you include his foot in mouth trick, that he is an expert on.

I don't think many of our fellow veterans have a problem with DJT not serving, and maybe most don't even have a problem with the deferments. But coupling all that together with his assault on the service and sacrifice of John McCain made him a lot like Jane Fonda in my eyes. That doesn't necessarily mean that given the two options (HRC or DJT) that he wasn't the better option, but his treatment of Capt McCain gave me great cause for concern.

Context is very important.

May be none of them are perfect? We can judge history, not so sure about the present and future.
