The pay freeze affects non-union employees, who account for about 64% of CenturyLink’s 39,000 workers. Unionized workers would continue to get raises in line with their most recent contract. But in December, CenturyLink suspended holiday bonuses for unionized workers, who got a $200 holiday bonus in 2016.

A few key CenturyLink execs got large bonuses late last year, right before the company canceled rank-and-file holiday bonuses and companywide raises, which has rankled some of the company’s workers. Level 3’s former CEO and CFO received millions of dollars in bonuses and stock options for moving to the new company. At the same time, CenturyLink’s retiring CFO got an extra $1.4 million in severance. And a top sales executive who was with the company less than two years got an extra $300,000 when he retired. The cash bonuses alone, not counting stock and options, totaled $7.3 million.
One CenturyLink employee who did the math told Yahoo Finance: “If the $7.3 million paid out in bonuses to four guys in November had been spread across the company, it would’ve nearly equaled the $200 holiday bonus typically paid.”

Remember that telecom companies are big winners in the trump tax cut. Big bonuses for execs. Nothing for the rest of the workers.

In other words, the 2018 tax cut did not change 2017 financial management decisions - I am truly shocked.

From your link:

CenturyLink’s stock, in dark blue, has tanked during the last 12 months.

They are a terrible company with extremely slow internet.

They didn't help Carrier workers OR Sam's Club workers either.

The Sams clubs closed due to a change in company strategy, laid out almost a year ago.

Don't know about Carrier..but you do know that anyone that works at Sam's Club is eligible to to transfer to a Wal-Mart and get first shot at a position there before Wal-Mart will hire off the street? I know because I worked there before.

Real dumb of CenturyLink. Right now is the time to get good PR by tossing some peanuts at your employees while raking in massive amounts of money from the tax cuts. I know if I owned a huge business I would be giving everyone a one time bonus right now.

Doesn't matter if that "strategy" was a year ago.
It's (A) the optics, and (B) the grandstanding WalMart and a dozen other companies engaged in with regard to the tax cuts while simultaneously shuttering those stores.
Supposedly those tax cuts should be able to offset the need to close 68 outlets.

But mostly, it's the optics, not that Righties care...they don't even care about three porn stars Trump boffed and paid off. The guy was right, he really COULD shoot someone on 5th Ave and still remain in office. The only thing that will make him leave is a Democratic upset and majority in both chambers of Congress. Trump will not walk on a leash.
He'll martyr himself, blame the Dems for his failure, and walk out.

See you in November ;)

Trump said tax cuts would create jobs. So far the big winners have been cutting jobs.

Oh...I see.

So, the tax cut is signed a few weeks ago and you think it'll be like turning on a light? Suddenly...MORE JOBS!! LOL!!

Either you have no idea how business works or you are just looking for something...no matter how stupid...to complain about.

Well golly gee that's what Paul Ryan says...

So what about those threads about tax cuts creating jobs?

So what about those threads about tax cuts creating jobs?

What about them?

Make up your mind, eh? Is this thread about CenturyLink? Or about other threads?

In that tweet, where does Ryan talk about creating jobs?

So let me get this straight.
corporations hire more people and give raises, its because of the tax cuts.
When the lay people of and cut jobs, it has nothing to do with tax cuts.

Looks like you need to make your mind.

Oh...now you want to talk about "corporations"...instead of CenturyLink. You know...you probably shouldn't have mentioned CenturyLink at all since that corporation's situation doesn't seem to support the REAL reason you started your thread: Grousing about the tax cut.

My suggestion...let this thread die. It's not serving your purpose. Then, start another thread about the tax cuts and corporations and get back to your pissing and moaning.

Wait, wait! We're making too much money ruining the country's retail space! Let's start deep cuts so we make more!!!

Lol, no. The future of retail is e-commerce. Amazon bought whole foods, for this purpose. Note that some strategically placed SAMs clubs are staying open, as fulfillment centers. Walmart is going to throw its hat into the ring for meal and grocery delivery service, like Blue Apron, and Graze.
