Melania Trump Orders Removal of Near-200-Year-Old Tree From White House [W:451]

As I have little respect for the style choices of the First Lady, my first assumption on reading the headline this morning had to do with thinking that Melania simply didn't care for the look of the tree, that it messed with her perception of how the White House should appear.

Then I read the article - The headline was nothing more than clickbait for a piece which actually explained the situation and that removing the tree had been suggested by the groundskeepers and arborists who are responsible for caring for the grounds surrounding the White House.

I like CNN, it is far more reliable when reporting news than Fox, but in this instance they really screwed the pooch. Hopefully, whoever was responsible for putting the OK on the headline will suffer some consequences.

Nothing is sacred. I would build a stone support for it. A wall to keep the tree up. This tree is 200 years old!!! I guess nothing is sacred....

No tree lives forever. The article states the problem began more than 5 decades ago.

On a good note from the OP article
"However disappointing the removal of the Jackson Magnolia, the silver lining of its demise is that White House groundskeepers were prepared. For several months, at an undisclosed greenhouse-like location nearby, healthy offshoots of the tree have been growing, tended to with care and now somewhere around eight to 10 feet tall. CNN has learned the plan is that another Jackson Magnolia, born directly from the original, will soon be planted in its place, for history to live on."

Lifespan of a Magnolia tree is somewhere around 80-120 years. Since the tree has been in place since the 1800's, seem well past his prime.
Guess removing a tree gives some more to complain about President Trump.

Perhaps you libruls should just admit that your gripe is not about the tree coming down, it's about Trump.

And?

Damn skippy I have gripes about Trump. I feel at home with tens of millions across the globe who do have gripes about Trump.

If it comes across as petty because I complain about something like this tree being removed? Then so be it. In a year or so, when we are sifting through the ashes of what's left of this country, of democracy and of the rule of law, I'd much rather be able to say, "I was petty," than "I voted for Trump."

Probably what they were going for.

Right. Far longer than our country will be standing.

:)

Such drama.

The country didn't collapse under Obama and it won't collapse under Trump.

A White House official told CNN that the First Lady made the decision after reviewing and assessing professional information and historical documents.

CNN obtained documents from specialists at the United States National Arboretum

Don't worry America! CNN is investigating!

Documentation reviewed by CNN revealed the Jackson Magnolia has had apparent damage as far as five decades back.

Aha! Case solved.

The Magnolia is Missippi's state flower. That makes it racist, so it's ok.

I can't wait for the real reason for it's removal to be revealed.

Because the tree was dying and a safety hazard?

Such drama.

The country didn't collapse under Obama and it won't collapse under Trump.

Why would it have collapsed under Obama?

What did he do that was so bad that we were a joke to the world, at the brink of nuclear war, and starving out the elderly while stripping kids of health insurance?

Maybe - just maybe - you arent being dramatic enough.

I thought it was going to be, "Melania orders the removal of the ***** grabbing lech from the White House".

I get it...an old tree being propped up just reminded her too much of Donald without his Viagra. #saggingWiener

However it was too close to falling down like Hillary.

All the brew-ha-ha was for naught?

There was never any brouhaha for me.

I was in a waiting room this AM watching CNN and there seemed to be no issue with the removal. In fact one of the reporters indicated that it was thankful it was being removed - because it was falling apart and the reporters frequently stood there.

What are you going to gripe about after trump is re-elected?
