Trump Says US 'Foolishly Spent' $7 Trillion in the Middle East As He Spends $2 Billion a Day on War

Trump criticized the US for spending trillions in the Middle East, days after signing a military budget that will cost taxpayers $2 billion a day in 2018.

However, while Trump is right about the fact that the United States needs to focus on its infrastructure, and that the U.S. has wasted trillions of taxpayer dollars in the Middle East, he seems to be forgetting the fact that just days before, he was celebrating the passage of a bill that will continue the U.S. government’s tradition of wasting massive amounts of money in the Middle East.

While Trump was not as vocal about the passage of the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act on Twitter, he did makes a few comments before signing the legislation at the White House. He referenced an attempted attack in New York City, where a man detonated a crudely-made pipe bomb in a subway station the day before. While the man who made the device was the only one injured, Trump used it as another example of why Americans should funnel billions of tax dollars into “keeping America safe.”

I suppose that Thoreau72 was right:

I lay the blame on the military industrial complex, which controls all administrations. POTUS is pretty much just a puppet.

Trump, to me, is no different than Obama, Bush, and all the Presidents that came before.

Congress is spending that money not Trump

Thoreau has accurately described the war mongering USA a number of times!

America Has Been at War 93% of the Time – 222 out of 239 Years – Since 1776

The U.S. Has Only Been At Peace For 21 Years Total Since Its Birth

In 2011, Danios wrote:

Below, I have reproduced a year-by-year timeline of America’s wars, which reveals something quite interesting: since the United States was founded in 1776, she has been at war during 214 out of her 235 calendar years of existence. In other words, there were only 21 calendar years in which the U.S. did not wage any wars.

To put this in perspective:

* Pick any year since 1776 and there is about a 91% chance that America was involved in some war during that calendar year.

* No U.S. president truly qualifies as a peacetime president. Instead, all U.S. presidents can technically be considered “war presidents.”

* The U.S. has never gone a decade without war.

* The only time the U.S. went five years without war (1935-40) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
At some point, and for the good of the country, I predict we will start working with the Democrats in a Bipartisan fashion. Infrastructure would be a perfect place to start. After having foolishly spent $7 trillion in the Middle East, it is time to start rebuilding our country!

Trump bent over for the swamp, or he was simply lying. Take your pick. Neither one is very pretty.

7 trillion is a estimate on the high end, we will not know the exact number till the last broken soldier dies, but TRUMP IS RIGHT.

Right about what? About the military spending being a waste? If so, I agree with you. But I think it's hollow if he goes against what he said, which he did.

As per the Constitution. Congress can't do it alone.
I understand that. What I'm saying is that Trump deserves to be seen as being culpable in the military spending. He's the one that signed the legislation after all.

Absolutely. I was agreeing with you. Congress didn't do it alone.

The difference is...

Obama spent that money foolishly. Obama spent that money to allow ISIS to flourish and expand. Obama spent that money to obtain the result of a military that is hardly capable of meeting its obligation, let alone be ready for emergencies.

Trump is ripping ISIS a new one. Trump is determined to bring our military back to being the best fighting force in the world.

ISIS was already basically dead thanks to the efforts of Syria, Iran, and Russia. And spending money on a military budget that's already the biggest in the world is foolish. It means more lives lost when we should be distancing ourselves from the world and focusing on our own problems. Instead, we're still babysitting the world.

Right that we wasted a **** ton of money on unwise military adventures,...a classic mistake, one that is speeding the collapse of America.

I concur. Unfortunately, Trump is repeating it.

And Trump is working WITH them...instead of against them...to get the job done. Obama?...not so much.

I don't think you understand the nature, the uses and the purpose of having a large, powerful and capable military. Believe me...we need it. And it costs money. But the benefits outweigh the costs. The problem we run into all the time is that when the Democrats get into power, they cut the military as much as they possibly can and we end up in a bad position. Then a Republican fixes things...and the snowflakes blame the Republican.

So it goes...

Actually, both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party increase military spending. It increased under Obama, Bush, Clinton and so on and so forth. We already spend more on the cost of our military several times over what other countries like China spend. And Trump hasn't shown that he intends to work with Syria or Iran or Russia. He's aiding the neo-Nazi controlled government in Ukraine, he's been making threats against Iran, and he hasn't pulled any troops away from Syria. He hasn't even stopped the Pentagon from funding the "moderate rebels" (read: jihadists) in Syria. Instead of spending on our military, we should be spending on, for example, our infrastructure like Trump originally said he would.

No he is not, Trump is being more responsible with our military than of any of the Presidents since at least Old Man Bush.

If he were responsible with our military, he would bring our troops home.

Lol. The Iraq Shia, the Syrian Kurds, and Russian incendiary/cluster munitions are ripping ISIS a new one.
