Memphis's Novel Strategy for Tearing Down Confederate Statues

Perhaps the support of labor unions went by the wayside when the labor unions became tools of organized crime and jumped in bed with the rat party. No reasonable, thinking person can see the unions that exist today and see them as anything but a cancer.

Americans did not submit to labor unions, we submitted to concentrated corporate state wealth and power.

Those people are voting Republican now. They voted for Trump. Anyone trying to convince themselves otherwise is delusional.
The 'southern strategy' fairy tale doesnt explain the devastation the democrat party is doing in every major city in the south, the north, and every where in the country. Anyone that ignores what the rat party has done to the black American community is both delusional and complicit.

See my sig line.

He must have been spouting a fairy tale narrative too.
See Detroit. LA. Chicago. Boston. See every major city where democrats control the government. See what 70 years of blind support for the rat party has bought the black American community. See how modern democrats have ****ed over the black American community in ways that the democrats of yesterday couldnt even dream about.

Topic was Memphis taking down those Racist monuments...Not LA , Detroit or Boston...They removed those monuments to white bigots years ago....Try to keep up

Many Americans who claim to be "reasonable" are anything but rational or reasonable.

Labor unions were far more entwined with organised crime back in the 1930s and '40s than they were as the well-funded propaganda mills began to spew forth ideological nonsense in the late '50s and '60s. Propaganda which led to the "right to work" laws in various states. Propaganda which was quite reminiscent of the crap that Southern politicians used to control their white populations by claiming the "niggers were after 'real Americans' jobs." The difference lying in the use of organised crime groups and communism as the bugaboos.

Funny, in a very sad way, that the growth rate for American wages slowed as union membership declined, all the while the American worker was becoming more productive and the corporate executive compensation increased several hundred times more rapidly than the workers' wages.

Today labor unions are worthless. They are political tools...nothing more. Unions protect and indeed reward incompetence while dumping money into political campaigns...not coincidentally...campaigns you would support.

But the parties have NOT flipped. Thats just your fairy tale narrative. The only thing that happened is the democrats got REALLY REALLY good at ****ing over black Americans. Seriously...what the democrat Klan did was brutal. What the democrat party is doing to black Americans? Devastating.

I wish I knew more about this "democrat" party. They sound really bad but I can't find out anything about them. For some reason, partisan blowhards refer to this party all the time, which is nice, but they seem to be an invented party as best I can tell. Weird.

I know the parties in the South have flipped. Just for example in my dad's hometown when he was growing up, the Democratic primary was the election for local offices - often for real, because there was no Republican running, but in reality that was always the case because 100% of the elected office holders were Democrats. Much of the South was similarly aligned. Now that same town is roughly 100% Republican. Again, much of the South is the same way - whites, especially in rural areas, are overwhelmingly Republican. That's what it looks like when parties "flip."

It's sort of in the record - one of those things we call "facts" but that some dull witted right wingers disregard when necessary to avoid cognitive dissonance, and keep their partisan myths alive.

Well, if you've been there "several" times, then you must know the city well!

Well enough to know it is a cesspool. Something you have not even attempted to refute.

Always nice to see an answer which isn't actually an answer to the points I have made. Obviously, you hate unions, even though your only knowledge in regards to unions has come from various propaganda mills that you 'know' are always correct.

I dont 'hate' anything. I recognize them for the worthless corrupt political tools that they have become. Thats not from propaganda mills...its a historical reality. Unions today exist to dump cash into the democrat party and reward incompetence. I understand why you love them so.

So, you don't 'hate' labor unions but your words are telling a different story. Funny how every accusation you level against unions has been regurgitated from those propaganda mills I mentioned.

What is it with "conservatives" and "independents" and their refusal to use or even understand correct grammar? It is the Democratic Party, not the "democrat party".

Anyone who believes in this day, that the parties have not flipped is simply denying reality. In 1956, the GOP party platform, advocated for minimum wage increases, supported labor unions, said expanding Social Security was a good thing, pushed for laws calling for equal pay for equal work and promoted an expansion of refugee programs.

The modern GOP has some members pushing for the elimination of minimum wage all together, is loudly promoting "right to work" laws that are targeted on labor unions, wants to privatise Social Security, is not in favour of gender equality in the work place and rants about "illegal immigrants". So, yeah the parties have "flipped" and those who deny history are a major aspect of the problem with communication in this country.

This is a deception intended to minimize the sordid history of the Democratic Partys gleeful involvement in a conga line of evils from their origins in the trail of tears to their more overt support of slavery, segregation, lynchings, forced sterilization, support of fascism, and Japanese American internment. Progressive Democrats seek to evade the judgement of history by covering it up or destroying history. This is the tale of the big switch devised by yahoos like Dan Carter and Earl and Merle Black. This is a transparent effort to rescue "progressive" and Democratic Party history.....This tale is Democrats see the light somehow starting with the Civil Rights Movement and become "the good guys" while Republicans become the "bad guys". In reality of the over 1500 racist democrats in Congress, Governors,Justicies, and all those that opposed the Civil Rights Movement....14 actually changed parties...yes...less than 1 percent. The idea that racist Democrats somehow became Republicans is a lie and a strategic myth.
As the people in the South became less racist over time...This becomes the time period of Republican ascendancy.

Most southern whites became Republican for economic reason.
The racists remained loyal to the Democratic Party until they die.

"Blacks clearly didn’t switch for reasons of race because the Democratic Party was, in the 1930s, the undisputed home of racism. It remained so until at least the early 1960s. (I say “at least” because I believe that modern progressive Democratic ideology remains infused with racism, although this racism manifests itself in a new way.) So many blacks switched reluctantly, because they knew they were leaving the party of Lincoln for the party of segregation, lynching, and the Ku Klux Klan.
Why did they do it? They did it because the Democrats promised them economic benefits. These benefits meant a great deal to blacks then living through the hardships of segregation and the Great Depression. Democrats offered blacks some of the same security that blacks had during slavery—in which the basic needs of blacks were met on the plantation—and blacks, during a desperate time, went for it.
his was one of the most significant political transformations in American history. Long-term, it has proven to be a terrible bargain for blacks. They have remained the worst-off group in America, surpassed even by poverty-stricken immigrants who came to this country much later with nothing. The inner city remains a kind of Third World enclave in America, and whether or not blacks realize it, the Democrats intend to keep it that way.
Yet counterproductive though the black shift of political allegiance has proven over the past seventy-five years, I cannot entirely blame black Americans for making it. They were under extreme economic stress. And they were conned by the artful pitch men of the Democratic Party. These pitch men said to blacks: you have had it hard enough in the past; now you deserve to be taken care of by the federal government. And many blacks figured: after all we’ve been through, this is our due.
But if the Democrats were such racists, why did they offer to uplift blacks in this way? Here we find the true switch, which was a switch of tactics by progressive Democrats. Democrats had already tried various exploitation schemes after slavery, from segregation to lynching to white supremacy. Yet from the 1860s through the 1920s, the Democrats remained the minority party nationwide."--Dinesh Desouza--Hillary's America History of the Democratic Party

So progressive Democrats realized they needed a new and bigger scam. For two centuries they had oppressed and stolen from blacks and other minorities; now they had an idea for how to do it to the country as a whole. The new Democratic scam was progressivism, not the old progressivism of forced sterilization and support for fascism, but a new progressivism that turned blacks and other minorities into pawns in a grand larceny scheme.
The scheme works like this. Progressives supply the basic needs of poor blacks, creating for them a new plantation called the inner city. There blacks are provided with food, subsidized housing, medical care, and so on. In this regard, the new plantation functions pretty much like the old one, with a few modifications. Under slavery, this was rural paternalism; now it is urban paternalism. The slave master is replaced by the government; i.e. the Big House of slavery is now replaced by the White House.
In both cases, it’s a meager living. But there is an important difference. Under slavery, blacks had to work; today’s blacks don’t have to work to inhabit the progressive plantation. In fact, they must not work, because if they become self-reliant, then the progressives have no future use for them. Consequently, many young blacks have productivity, creativity, even human dignity sapped out of them. This is the core of today’s progressive racism.--Dinesh Desouza--Hillary's America The Secret History of the Democratic Party.

The idea that racist Democrats somehow became Republicans is a lie and a strategic myth.

There is no more need for the modern Democratic party to deny its sordid history than there is for the South to deny its sins for the period from the founding through the CRA and VRA. Yes, the Democratic party welcomed and joined with the white racists in the South to form a majority for decades at the national level. But the problem hasn't ever really been Democrats or Republicans in general, but the part of whites in the former confederacy. Just on the CRA and VRA votes, nearly every democrat NOT from the former CSA voted for those bills. Democrats in the former CSA (that is, nearly every white elected member of Congress from the South) voted roughly 100% against the bills.

And it's just historical fact that the parties flipped in the South. In rural areas once 100% Democratic, they are not nearly 100% Republican. Blacks who were nearly exclusively Republican are now nearly 100% in the Democratic party. That just HAPPENED.

As the people in the South became less racist over time...This becomes the time period of Republican ascendancy.

Under this theory, the white racists stayed in the Democratic party, which is why in 2017 about 98% of blacks voted for the racist Democratic party in the most recent Alabama Senate election? That doesn't pass the laugh test.

Most southern whites became Republican for economic reason.
The racists remained loyal to the Democratic Party until they die.

Right, the racists are in the party of roughly every elected black person in the South. In the South the hard core racists are in the same party as Rep. John Lewis, the civil rights activist who marched with MLK, Jr.

Desouza's an amazingly dishonest hack - I snipped some of the hackery for brevity. What's so striking about what you quoted is it is incredibly insulting to blacks, alternatively effectively calling them stupid, or lazy and therefore willingly signing up for welfare that they don't have to earn. So it's an inherently racist or bigoted view of blacks and their relationship to the Democratic party and the country.

There is no more need for the modern Democratic party to deny its sordid history.

They why rush out and try to do just that if there is no need? The history speaks for itself. The issue is the attempt to cover up and destroy what should be public knowledge.

A region is not a people just fyi. You keep saying the south does this and that. Land does nothing.

This "Flip" is a myth in the context you are trying to push and a very important strategic lie in the democratic agenda. Anyone should take the time to research this but as a minority I thought it even more important to dig out the history and to call out the lies pushed unwittingly in many cases out of sheer ignorance by what enemies of the country call "useful idiots".

"As a result of unrelenting efforts by Democrats to shift their racist past onto the backs of Republicans, using the mantra: "the parties switched sides", a lot of people have requested an article addressing this issue.

It does not make sense to believe that racist Democrats suddenly rushed into the Republican Party, especially after Republicans spent nearly 150 years fighting for black civil rights. In fact, the racist Democrats declared they would rather vote for a "yellow dog" than a Republican because the Republican Party was known as the party for blacks.

From the time of its inception in 1854 as the anti-slavery party, the Republican Party has always been the party of freedom and equality for blacks. As author Michael Scheuer wrote, the Democratic Party is the party of the four S's: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism. Democrats have been running black communities for the past 50+ years, and the socialist policies of the Democrats have turned those communities into economic and social wastelands.

An alarming view of what America will be like in a few years due to unbridled socialism being pushed by President Barack Obama and his Democratic Party cohorts, is contained in the article: "Detroit: The Moral of the Story" by Kevin D. Williamson that is posted on the Internet.

Democrats first used brutality and discriminatory laws to stop blacks from voting for Republicans. Democrats now use deception and government handouts to keep blacks from voting for Republicans. In his book, "Dreams From My Father," Obama described what he and other Democrats do to poor blacks as "plantation politics."

The racist Democrats of the 1950's and 1960's that Republicans were fighting died Democrats. One racist Democrat who survived until 2010 was US Senator Robert Byrd, a former recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan. Notably, the Ku Klux Klan was started by Democrats in 1866 and became the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party for the purpose of terrorizing and lynching Republicans—black and white. Byrd became a prominent leader in the Democrat-controlled Congress where he was honored by his fellow Democrats as the "conscience of the Senate."

Byrd was a fierce opponent of desegregating the military and complained in one letter: "I would rather die a thousand times and see old glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again than see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen of the wilds."

article posted in 2013 by Alveda C King --
I regret having said to a group of peers that my Uncle M. L. (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) was a Republican. I said that without having all the facts.

My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr. was a registered Republican. Uncle M. L. was an independent, who in his own words tended to vote Democrat.

If you want to have a conversation, I'm willing, but I'm not going to post comments and have 99% of them clipped and ignored, and then repeat points that directly address arguments you make in this new post. It's not worth my time if you're not going to read what I write and address it. IMO, it's a dishonest way to debate.

I stopped paying attention to your post where I cut it off, because that's a false/dishonest characterization of my post. I'd explain, but you just clipped my comment where anyone reading my words can discern my points, then lied/misrepresented what I said. So I'll pass further efforts.

I rarely agree with you but in this instance you are 100% correct. Johnson lost the solid
democratic south completely because of almost all of his administrational actions
from 1963-1968. Before Johnson they were called 'Yellow Dog Democrats'

Yellow Dog Democrats was a political term applied to voters in the Southern United States who voted solely for candidates
who represented the Democratic Party. The term originated in the late 19th century. These voters would allegedly
"vote for a yellow dog before they would vote for any Republican".

The best example of this complete change of allegiance is looking at the votes stemming from Greene County Mississippi:

I bought an old 1947 Alamac at a yard sale about a decade ago & found these striking totals:

Greene County presidential voting in 1944 (Democrat 879 - Republican 63) Republicans received 6.6% of the votes

Greene County presidential voting in 2016 (Democrat 974 - Republican 4,335) Republicans received 81.6% of the votes

During Johnson's landslide in 1964 to only states he lost were Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia & South Carolins
along with his opponents home state of Arizona. His policies ended forever the Democrat hold on the deep south.

When Goldwater won Mississippi in 1964 it was the first time a Republican won that state since the Republican party was invented
about 100 years before. Since 1964 a Republican for over 50 years was only defeated once in the state and that was Wallace in 1968.

In 1948 Strom Thurmond won the solid south when they created the Dixiecrat party opposed to both Truman & Dewey. Thurmond a
prominent Democrat bolted the party because of his disaffection with the support for civil rights of the national democratic party.
He became a democratic senator in 1954 served for 9 years as a Democrat and then switched parties and held the seat as a Republican
from 1964 until 2003 almost 40 years.

Memphis is still a crime-ridden cesspool with or without those statues. The world is no different with the statues gone and neither is Memphis.

Honestly I wish people understood that even the “symbolism” of the statues is irrelevant. And mainly a misdirect from this reality. Good move by Memphis though.
