This could be a real wake-up call for nations who take our money and then vote against us.

It's kind of a lesson in "don't bite the hand that feeds you."

What do others think? Is it about time we held other nations accountable? Do we owe them anything if they turn on us?

This could be very interesting.

"They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we're watching those votes," he added. "Let them vote against us, we’ll save a lot. We don't care."

Trump is trying to reform the “America is your ATM” attitude in tne world. This all started by the USA working to rebuild war-torn economies throughout the world.

That era has passed, and it time to literally put “We the people” back front and center again.

so, I knew Trump & Rosie grew up in the same trailer park; they are both into bribery ................. it's a small world ...........

Trump is quite familiar with the concept and application of quid pro quo. Are we holding them accountable for acting in their own best interest? Perhaps in accordance with the will of their people? Or are we holding them accountable for taking money and defying an order from the benefactor?

Trump is seemingly unable to grasp the concept that not everyone that we provide aide to is indebted to us. It's an entirely symbolic vote at the UN (as most votes at the UN are.) There's absolutely no need to further ruin international relations over a literal do nothing vote.

You can't bribe people with money you are already giving them.

Only Rosie committed a felony with her bribes.

Trump is only threatening to take away taxpayer-funded goodies for nations that refuse to back us up.

If they don't feel even slightly indebted -- especially over something like a symbolic vote -- why not hold their feet to the fire?

It's really all their choice after all.

technicality is one thing; intent is another .............

Think of it like a parent withholding allowance from a child who spits in their face. The intent is to show the brat that they have a choice -- they can either act a little bit respectful -- or they can do without money to go to the movies that week.

It's really that simple.

If it's our money, why shouldn't we attach a few strings?

Indeed, and so is "bribe", and I suggest you crack a dictionary.

yes, I understand Father Trump is threatening to 'discontinue' the US bribery scheme if folks don't do as we demand when Father Trump starts kicking & screaming ..............

LOL. So your problem, as you describe it, is that Trump is threatening to end a "bribery scheme"? :lamo

Those who we helped then turn against us should have economic sanctions levied.

What possibly makes you think those we provide aid to don't owe us?

"With friends like that who needs enemies?"

We should have evicted the UN from NYC 20 years ago.

I have no problem taking a harder look at aid we dish out. But usually we aren’t giving aid out of the goodness of our hearts. We are buying access and stability, that arguably helps us in the long run. So there is already quid pro quo going on with our aid. If we think we can get more out of it then fine. But if we push too far it could hurt our own interests. But we don’t know what that line is, yet.

I mean... the "aid" was bribery in the first place... might as well get something for it... or have no bribery

So all aid must end with strict compliance with the wishes of the US?

Anywhere else it would be called "extortion".

At least we are seeing the real side of the Trump clan, bullies and thugs.

I always said American "generosity" came at a cost, and had nothing to do with "human rights"....now the mafia-like tactic is out in the open.

Seems that way. This is Trumps idea of diplomacy. I don't think Trumps bullying tactic here frightens the international community at all.

The Russians and Chinese will gladly fill whatever power-vacuum Trump creates.

"Mafia-like tactic..." Drama much?

I think disagreement is allowed, but specifically passing resolutions condemning the US is foolhardy.

The Resolution does not condemn the US at all. It simply urges all nations to allow the I/P parties to mutually settle the status of Jerusalem via negotiation.

China is the New World banker, and will be at par within the next decade, militarily, with the US. The US cannot compete. Throwing out TPP only hastened the process.
