I used to be a Leftist, but thanks to a lot of international travel/living as a young man, I’d come back to the US for several months every year and notice the vast difference to the best the EU had to offer.
With time, I left the Left and haven’t seen reason to turn back. I keep an open mind, but what I see is a deeper trough of ridiculousness from the Left, not a shallower one.
So... doing a political 180... means you’re likely not much of a bigot. Quite the opposite. I didn;t weld my brain to an ideology. I sought what would be most beneficial to society as a whole... and to limit the negative effects without trampling on Liberty.
Like Krauthammer... we both came to the same conclusion when presented with the hard facts of Socialist legistlation. It fails the people. It may have been well intended, but failure is failure... and the fact is... Leftists schemes have an almost perfect record of failure.
My ardent support of Libertarian/Conservative beliefs isn’t founded on blind lifelong partisanship, and I certainly support the right of people to say their piece. That I believe in deeply. I encourage it in fact, for when there is no discussion, there is no interest, and no progress.
That’s why Leftists want to shut down speech... because they’re intolerant and can’t compete in the arena of ideas. It’s easier to shut people down you disagree with as this dimwitted girl at Fordham U tried to do, than be tolerant, or stand toe-to-toe intellectually and have it out.
We see these bigots all over institutions of “higher learning”. Leftist violence to stop those they dislike from speaking. It’s sad, and it’s the poisonous fruit the Leftist tree has produced with great abundance.
