The museum opens Saturday, apparently without its keynote speaker, John Lewis, because he's having a hissyfit over President Trump's presence:

Civil rights icons Rep. John Lewis and Rep. Bennie Thompson announced Thursday they will not attend President Donald Trump's upcoming visit to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, calling the trip "an insult" to the African-Americans commemorated there.

“President Trump’s attendance and his hurtful policies are an insult to the people portrayed in this civil rights museum," Thompson (D-Miss.) and Lewis (D-Ga.) said in a joint statement.

Trump is scheduled to appear at the opening of the museum in Jackson on Saturday. The museum, according to its website, will feature galleries that hearken to a time "when Mississippi was ground zero for the national Civil Rights Movement."

Trump’s attendance has come under fire from civil rights groups, with the NAACP casting it as an "affront" to African-Americans.

Idiots will be idiots? Does show how much they care about civil rights though. They can't even put aside their differences with Trump in the name of it.

More people being complete children over what the president is doing.. go figure.

Score one for NPR with the headline "African-American Congressmen Will Skip Mississippi Civil Rights Event To Avoid Trump" followed by:

Lewis was to have been one of the main speakers at the event along with Myrlie Evers, the widow of assassinated Mississippi NAACP leader Medgar Evers. She told the New York Times she hopes that Trump will "learn something" by attending the museum opening.

"If God gives me the breath and the strength, I will address his attendance when I stand to speak," she added.

Giving the impression I think correctly that this so-called civil rights leader hero is acting like a wuss.

He's one really pissed-off man. Apparently, he's not the only one:

Even if Trump hasn’t exactly been a symbol of racial reconciliation, he said, “it’s good for our state that the president, whoever he is, is tipping his hat to Mississippi, coming here knowing that there are things in this museum that we do not want to see repeated. The purpose of this museum was to be honest, open, to be candid about things that were indefensible.”

Jackson’s longest-serving city councilman, Kenneth Stokes, isn’t buying that. He drives through his center-city ward and pronounces that he will never enter the museum. “It’s a statement of white control of history,” he said. “In the blackest state in the United States of America, you don’t have one black elected official statewide. Look at these houses, gutted, falling down, it’s like it’s a hundred years ago. How can you have a museum that says this is in the past? It’s not a museum for poor black people, not if they’re charging that high fee. It’s for whites to make themselves feel better.”

Eight bucks is a high fee? Then, yeah, you should probably stay home and figure out how you're going to get even with the bigoted crackers someday for all of the beatings, kidnappings, and lynchings they perpetrated against "your people." And whatever you do, don't go to Disney World.

Great civil rights leaders need to step up and make arguments, make sure that they have the better arguments and know how to use them, not walk way from the chance to make an argument because they are not happy to see one of the men in the audience.

And this BS seems to fly in America, because we suck now.

Good. Everyone should boycott it as long as Trump, a known Neo Nazi supporter and racist, is coming.

Hell, I can fully understand the Congressman's differences with our orange haired leader.

If it were me, I'd not only go - but I'd use the opportunity to call Trump out!

If Trump and his actions suck so badly (I believe he & they indeed do), it shouldn't be too hard to take him on in public. Why shy away from a good debate?

So then you are not aN honor the office and the will of the people even if you dont like the guy guy.

Lack of ability to get around his emotions and get the job done maybe....

The will of the people was that Clinton should be attending, not Trump. Poor wording with "will of the people".

Trump is a disgrace to the office, a racist and supports Neo Nazis. Any and all boycott till the day he resigns is warranted. The Group of Pedophiles (GOP) should be impeaching his ass, but instead are allowing his racist views and sexual offender friends to stay around and even multiply.

Please define the word racist.

Who cares that he is having a hissy fit! The man hate republicans. He boycotted President Bush's Inauguration day and he did the same thing to President Trump.
This is an example of the resist foolishness that is truly harming the nation.

Theatrics and the telling of a victim story are being used to shirk responsibility.

Too many fools will cheer him on, but then again black leadership has long been fairly useless, which has a lot to do with why the black community is so broken.

I'm not sure, what hurtful policies he is referring to.

You may want to check your definition of "racist" and "supports" because Trump hasn't done or is either of those.

Which Clinton? Bill, the one who escalated unfair felony charges against Blacks in the 90's as president which devastated the Black community? Or are you referring to Hillary, the one called Black youth "Super Predators", celebrated Bill's jailing practices, and was a champion for Barry Goldwater?

What does a European in Denmark know about what Black in America want? And why does it always default to "The Clintons"? A couple of politicians who were never friendly towards the Black community until it was time to vote, then discarded and abandoned those Blacks after election day.

Being untruthful destroys any credibility you claim to have.

I wouldn't share a venue with that alt-right KKK supporting worthless prick Trump either.
**** him and his childish hypocrisy.

What garbage.
Trump has shown himself to be a racist moron who supports the alt-right and the KKK.

Too bad Lewis isn't going. He's missing some pearls of wisdom from President Trump I'm sure, like there are fine neo-Nazis and white supremacists out there.
