This story is pending further corroboration -- I'm still a little iffy on The Daily Beast. However, if the story is true, just keep in mind that the entirety of the Republican party distanced itself from Trump after the Access Hollywood tape, only to fully embrace him just days later. And the GOP has not cut ties with Moore to even a fraction of a degree that it temporarily cut ties with Trump. Still, though, it does demonstrate that the GOP is giving lip-service credibility to the Washington Post story.

A day after explosive allegations, the national Republican Party is creating distance. Locals, however, are running to the candidate’s defense.

A day after explosive allegations of sexual assault surfaced against Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore, the Republican Party’s senate campaign arm has severed financial ties with the embattled former state supreme court justice.

A joint fundraising committee benefitting Moore and a handful of Republican Party organs filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Friday removing the National Republican Senatorial Committee as one of its beneficiaries. Going forward, the committee’s fundraising will benefit Moore’s Senate campaign, the Alabama Republican Party, and the Republican National Committee but not the NRSC.

There were numerous, immediate calls from Senate Republicans for Moore to step aside when the story broke.

Good. The only way to do damage control without losing your soul is to cut ties.

I wouldn't say numerous, by a long shot.

I'll believe that in two weeks after a few good news cycles have had a chance to displace this story. As it stands, there is a very high chance that Republicans will flood back in to support Moore. There is, after all, precedent for this.

On the other hand, the main stream republicans are sort of in a civil war with Bannon. I can see them sacrificing Moore for the long term goal of squashing bannon.
