Partisans Have Starkly Different Opinions About How the World Views the U.S.

For many years, Republicans and Democrats generally shared the same views about whether Russia represented a major threat to the U.S. until the Trump era. In 2014, 58% of Republicans and 50% of Democrats said “growing authoritarianism in Russia” was a major threat and as recently as last year, 37% of Democrats and 46% of Republicans described “tensions with Russia” as a major threat. But partisan differences increased sharply after the presidential election, amid reports that Russia interfered in the campaign. In January, 67% of Democrats and 41% of Republicans said Russia’s power and influence were a major threat. These views have changed little since January; currently, 63% of Democrats and 38% of Republicans say Russia is a major threat to the U.S.

Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, and Reagan are probably turning over in their graves at the current Republican love affair with Russia. Coincidentally, 38% is roughly also Trumps approval rating among Americans.

I think it's a sure sign that we are moving apart when reports come out that Russia influenced the election and one side actually sees it as less of a threat than a year before. It also shows that even before we started seeing much evidence of Russian influence a lot of Democrats were pretty convinced.

Yes, times really have flipped on their head.

One always has to hope that one of these days Americans will notice and care that this society has become unglued, and as a result we are all of us headed for a very hard crash against the wall.

I swear, in that second photo there, Hillary looks just like Eugene McCarthy. Weird, huh?

We know that Russia has attempted to influence our elections for years... But as it stands now there is no evidence that anything they did, or attempted to do, actually resulted in changing anything.

The only thing it appears they may have been responsible for, was the hacked emails from Podesta and the DNC that were leaked to Wikileaks. Those emails were legitimate, not phony and provided information that the American public had a right to know about in the first place. The same goes for the Access Hollywood audio of Trump. Trump supporters may not have liked that audio being released, but it was Donald Trump on that tape, making it legitimate.

The only issue I would have with Russia or anyone else, was if they manufactured falsehoods to destroy a candidate and manipulate the American public.

Russia did manufacture a lot of falsehoods.

I have no problem with what Russia did in the election. They're a world player and they have their interests and we should be-ware of them as a player.

More important than the Russian factor is that the Military supported Trump, so any in-gains the Russians made were at the hands of our own voters.

Now that's funny...

You have it backwards. The difference between the two party's views of Russia isn't that republicans have a "love affair" with Russia, it's that the left has a raging hard-on for Russia because they 1) believe them to be responsible for Hillary's election loss via the release of the Wikileaks DNC/Podesta emails, and 2) because they bought into the Trump/Russia collusion narrative that democratic talking heads have been pushing, and as we all know... any friend of Trump, is the bitter enemy of the left.

The truth is, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, and Reagan aren't turning over in their graves, their probably laughing at you all right along with the rest of us.

It reminds me of the time that senator contacted the Soviets and orchestrated a deal to get the American media to present the Soviets in a positive light in exchange for dirt on the president. Do you remember that?

TDS has become a huge problem. It has driven people completely insane. Along with the surge of the moronic SJW it has caused a 100% collapse in social civility.

Then again it is the course of all societies to peak then crash then to be rebuilt again by civil minded people again.

You have it backwards.

No, I don't.

JFK said: "Ich bin ein Berliner".

Dutch Reagan said in Berlin: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

Unless you have an alternative version of history.

Today Russians cyber attack the US and the Trumpers cheer. It took an act of Congress to make Trump keep the Russian sanctions going.

My how times have changed.
