The next good move would be to let women become priests.

I believe that will happen.

Go Pope! :applaud

Though I know some Roman Catholics and some clerics aren't happy with him I've liked Pope Francis from day one.

Pope Francis has requested that Roman Catholic priests be given the right to get married.
The request applies to priests in Brazil, and is on the agenda for an upcoming synod (church council) in the Amazon region.

Can't he just make the change himself?

I understand that there is a critical shortage of priests so something has to be done. Not sure how a married person can also take the vow of poverty. Has he said how he will pay for this. Perhaps sell off some of the Vatican's vast holdings?

I never understood an institution that preached so much that marriage between a man and a women was the right way to be and what one should strive for... Didn't allow those preaching it to do it themselves.

Now I understand the arguments about piety and devotion to god etc. but man... Doesn't make the practice any less daft and nonsensical.

Vow of poverty is not an issue for your run of the mill parish priests. Only for priests in religious orders.

I have read that the pope has said that men already married should be considered for the priesthood in Brazil NOT that existing priests should be allowed to marry. This matches the existing rule where if a married Church of England priest converts to the Catholic religion he is allowed to become a Catholic priest.

Surprisingly orthodox catholic priests are permitted to marry and not bound by abstinence, such rules were primarily roman catholic or western catholic, while orthodox or the true to the original catholic faith catholics have no such rules, or even a pope for that matter.

Oh it does, but the first step was always going to be obtaining married men.

I don't see the costs involved in changing a rule.

Some things I believe have to be approved by the elder council.
They have their own system of government and this is changing a church law.

Over the years there has been discussions in priest marrying. Perhaps this should of been decided over 100 years ago and maybe we would not have this child sex molestations and abuse.
Thought not a Catholic I believe priest should not marry. On the other hand you have Episcopal priest married (someone correct me on this) but I believe they are not the same.

Would this include gay married priests ?

The numbers of Catholic priests have been vastly declining. Allowing marriage would help counteract that. It sounds like the Pope is for this. He is not anti-science and is a believer in global warming. He has also encouraged reconciling with the Lutherans; which it sounds like they are in the process of doing. The Lutherans I have known are very kind and open minded people.
