Vice President Pence Goes To Colts Game, Leaves Because Players Kneeled For National Anthem [W:141]

Vice President Mike Pence Goes To Colts Game, Leaves Because Players Kneeled For National Anthem

Mike Pence attended the Colts-49ers game Sunday in Indianapolis, but never caught a single snap. The Vice President got up and left Lucas Oil Stadium, refusing to watch the game after witnessing players kneel during the National Anthem.

This had to be a choreographed stunt. Like suddenly they weren't going to kneel anymore...

Trump admits he told Pence to leave if they kneeled. Try to keep up.

So what, he thought they magically weren't going to? As I've said many times in this thread, that seems awfully naive and I thought Pence was smarter than that.

Then there's the issue of the 3 year old picture...makes me wonder if he went at all or if the whole thing only happened on Twitter.

Pence is VP, not P. And the whole kneeling thing has become nothing more than a show in itself; it's nothing more than a "me too" move. So even if the VP had planned it, it sent a message.

Well of course it's a show. Just like pink for breast cancer is a show.

I'm just trying to figure it out. Because it seems like the official line is that Pence went to the game and when players knelt he got horrified as if he had never heard of such a thing. Or, he thought this would be the one time it didn't happen. Then he followed Trump's orders and left. So the official story is that Pence is a very naive person who doesn't follow the news and lacks the capacity for independent thought? That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Reporters told to stay in Van...Pence aides said he wouldn't be at the game very "long"...pence is a real tool

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but seems to me this is missing the point. The real issue for the NFL is that their games are becoming almost unbearable to watch they're so bad. I'm a Steelers fan and my team has been mediocre, at best, and they have one of the best records. Today, the team is/was abysmal. Add to the poor product prima donna men who play a game for a very lucrative living dissing the nations symbols of strength and unity and you have the makings of a league committing financial suicide. Happened to baseball back in the 1990s and took them two decades to recover a fan base. Players and owners better tread carefully here.

Bad? I’m a 49ers fan. Or was until they started kneeling. Their political views and warped view of the world is not what I’m paying for.

He wants to be president. If Trump resigns or doesn't run again, Pence will take up his mantle. He has no choice but to kiss Trump's ass to placate Republican voters.

I don't see it. Can you persuade me otherwise or is this just your opinion?

Yeah that's pretty dumb, why did he even go? Oh wait you already pinpointed it, it was a stunt. ;)

As I recall numerous 49ers had run ins with the law , domestic violence, drugs etc...Yet a few guys kneeling was too much for you eh?

Obviously it's my opinion since nobody really knows what Pence is thinking. But Pence and Trump strike me as two completely different people, with vastly different beliefs. I think Pence probably thinks Trump is a cocky douchebag, and is patiently waiting for Trump to screw up so bad that he resigns, or is hoping that Trump doesn't run again so that he gets his "turn". Pence also knows how popular Trump is with most Republican voters, and it would be bad for his future political aspirations to alienate the people who elected Trump to the presidency, so that's why he kisses Trump's ass.

Pence is the classic toadie...Biding his time until he calls the shots...Hopefully that will never happen

I'm with you there. I believe a Pence presidency would be worse than Trump presidency, which says a lot, because I think Trump is complete garbage.

It was all PR for the Trumpers.

Control the airwaves, and feed them red meet. Balkanize the country, hoping to keep and rally enough base to win the next election, or to keep Congress from impeaching, as the case may be!

re: Vice President Pence Goes To Colts Game, Leaves Because Players Kneeled For National Anthem [W:141]

Well Vox largely confirms my belief that this was about the Pence/Trump relationship:

Trump reignites NFL protest controversy by ordering Mike Pence to leave a Colts game
https://www.vox.com/2017/10/8/16444382/trump-pence-nfl-vice-president-kneel-national-anthem

This was more or less Pence kissing Trumps ring, because he did not need to do this.

I still think he will betray the Rebellion in the end.

I keep hearing people call it "a stunt". Kneeling isn't a stunt?

To recap: Pence spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer money and faked a photo on a stunt to deliberately stoke divisions among Americans. As ordered by his boss. He flew from Las Vegas to Indianapolis to walk out of the game, then flew back west to California.

That is about it..Pretty shameful actually

"Make America Great Again!"

Oh, sorry. 90 percent of Puerto Rico has no power. Let the dog and pony show commence!

At least you admit they have power... that's a start.

I didn't think you could back up your original statement.

1/10 of the island has power. Have fun being needlessly pedantic.

I doubt it. I don't think Pence wanted to leave when his good friend and political ally Peyton Manning was getting honored during halftime.

Then why did he leave? Do you think he didn't know the protest would happen, and left in a huff of outrage? Geez, the protest might have been more emphatic because he was there.
This whole stupid controversy is all just showboating by everyone, including Trump. I mean, dancing in the end zone and praying on the field and kneeling during the anthem are all just football players being attention whores, and now the President and Vice-President are whoring for attention on the same playing field.

Pence wipes his ass with his dignity on a near daily basis anymore. This is exactly why no one else wanted that job.

Culture wars. Where competing symbolic gestures drive a narrative about political progress or decline.

Yay.
