I think we're going to see the NFL start to crack down on kneelers in light of this:

A new Yahoo Finance poll suggests the NFL has an enduring problem on its hands. Nearly 62% of 9,056 respondents told us they plan to watch less pro football in response to the anthem controversy. Thirty-six percent said they plan to buy less NFL merchandise, and 32% have chosen not to attend a game they would otherwise have gone to. Those findings all have financial implications for the NFL and its 32 team owners.

What does "watching less football" mean exactly? Watching four games instead five? I highly doubt this "controversy" will affect viewership in a big way. However, the CTE issue will become more and more problematic in the upcoming years if the league does not act as it should.

I will watch, but I do admit that there is less joy in it for me. (Deflategate, CTE's, Politics, Protests)

The CTE thing actually scares me.

The protests only irritate me.

I think your response is probably typical of most. Some are very fed up, but the majority are just disappointed and disillusioned.

NFL has been in decline for some time. Not sure how the other teams handle the season tickets, my local team requires tickets be paid for far in advance of the start of the seasons. Last time I looked into it if you didn’t re up the next in line was offered the tickets. So if you stay away and cannot sell your tickets that’s money wasted. The last few games I have been to (at least five years ago), were full of inebriated and noxious fans, who usually fell asleep during the third quarter, when the medication ran out. The actions of both the league and the players (DWI, domestic violence and other antisocial behavior). “Winning cures everything”, doesn’t work for me any longer.

PS It is my understanding that the networks have ponied up for at least the next few years. I believe the bulk of the revenue is through broadcast rights. So it might be a while before things get tight.

The NFL is paying big attention to that 36% planning on buying less merchandise. NFL sponsorship and merchandising brings in $7.2billion/year according to Quora.com. They must be karking bricks looking at polling numbers like that.

If NFL fans are such delicate snowflakes that a few players choosing to exercise a little freedom before the game triggers them this hard, they're not real football fans anyway.

Fan attendance has been down for some time for a lot of sports.

When Fenway Park started not selling out after consecuative 832 sell outs?

I knew something was up, so I did a little research across all sports and found that attendance has been down for the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

Nascar is a different creature and it has a variety of reasons for the decline of race attendees. It has been slowly dying since Earnhardt was killed, and then the France family changing the rules every year pissed off a lot of fans. And, NASCAR fans just cannot associate with these 19 year old drivers who wouldn't know the open end or the boxed end of a wrench.

The economy has also played a role across the board.

Please tell us how you know so much about football fans.... This is going to be good.
Spoiled brat football players disrespecting our flag, the fans have a good reason to be upset.

That's a lot of money, and, from what I've heard, some of the disgruntled fans are advocating boycotts of NFL sponsors, which may put even more pressure on the NFL to set some strict rules and follow up with discipline.

If you're giving up the sport you love because a few minorities use their free will before the game even starts to take a knee, that person is not a football fan, just an asshole that wants to try to force the NFL to enforce their political views on individuals. Why do you guys hate freedom so much?

In my case, I will be watching no NFL games until the NFL comes to it's senses. And I don't think the NFL commissioner and owners will agree with you that the boycott is not affecting them seriously already.

The problem with you libruls is you want to make everything about race. It is not only minorities doing the kneeling. And for at least the 30th time, nobody is claiming the players do not have a right to protest. We are merely offended at the venue they chose to make that protest. And you are attempting to have it both ways. You want to protect the players right to protest, but not the fan's freedom to counter protest. And by now, any player with an IQ over 60 has to have worked out that their protests backfired based on the venue they chose...disrespecting the flag. The point they claim to be trying to make has been lost in the furor over the disrespect for the flag and anthem. Now the players are in effect protesting against nothing more then the anger over their way of protesting.

That is a very good point.

I will be watching just as much NFL as I ever have. I admire the protestors just because it's good to see a few US citizens complaining about government policy whatever it may be. The protestors harm nobody and nothing. They do not attack the flag, nor do they attack the anthem or the pledge. They just choose to sit instead of stand. They are merely dissenting during their short time of fame. Good on 'em.

If Donald had his way, farting during the anthem or pledge would become a criminal act.

They were protesting injustice, which is the greatest possible tribute to our flag.

Fascism 101: Conflate the government with "OUR TROOPS," conflate protest of injustice with disrespect for OUR TROOPS

Yeah but answering "plan to" in a poll is pretty meaningless. It will take a measurable decline in sales to actually make someone pay attention.

Without citing a specific case example or offering any suggested solution - the laziest possible way of pretending that they are politically involved. They are heroes and SJWs, indeed. All that they lacked were Fidel Castro T-shirts and police as pigs socks to show solidarity.

So protest "injustice" other than when our national anthem is being played. Why is that so hard?
Don't disrespect the flag. The NFL is back peddling big time and you know it. They made a terrible decision to let take a knee happen.

Here is the attendance since the NFL expanded to 32 teams, other than a recession dip in 2009 to 2012 attendance is as high as it ever was in the NFL

2016 - 17.788 million
2015 - 17.509
2014 - 17.606
2013 - 17.510
2012 - 17.303
2011 - 17.252
2010 - 17.140
2009 - 17.282
2008 - 17.459
2007 - 17.597
2006 - 17.606
2005 - 17.250
2004 - 17.270
2003 - 17.068
2002 - 16.979

Protesting the national flag to talk about injustice of city cops, who exactly is doing the conflating here?

And I’m sure that everyone you hypocrites stands at attention, straight as a board every time the anthem is played at a game on TV at your local tavern or in your living room. You’re all cracking beers and scratching your nuts, you know it as well as I do.

Its true. Im watching less football now... and the reason why is because the Bears suck!

Your criticism of their method of protesting injustice doesn't magically make this disrespectful to some unidentified military veteran.
