I use to think DPRK was simply an insane dictatorship too, but when you start to dig deeper, you start to understand it's really not that simple and there are larger geo-political aspects than simply "guys mental".

The existence of the DPRK is abhorrent to me and Kim should be hung, drawn and quartered for what his regime does to its people.

But do not mischarechterize my attempt to understand why he's doing what he's doing with being sympathetic to what he's doing.

I agree with everything but the last line, and that on purely technical grounds. Sometimes you can beat an enemy you don't understand. See the Colonization of the Americas, The Great Khan, etc.



But we're now way off topic. Getting back to it, I fully agree that Kim is acting perfectly rationally if you understand his positions as against his people, as against his competitors, and as against the rest of the world. He only distabalizes things in situations where his enemies/targets are likely to harm themselves more in response than they would harm him in responding. Those same actions help cement rule over the people/internal competitors.

I don't think I'd like to play poker with him.
