Breaking: New EO and sanction against North Korea

#1 would be In, #2 is Putin and #3 would be 45.

Depends on how you look at it, Kim Jong Un is not as crazy as the Western Media will have you believe, although I, of course, cannot be sure, the unlimited power he wields over his people can do strange things to a persons worldview, but there's a method to his madness, from his perspective if you're willing to go there and understand it, he's actually acting quite rationally and he's not crazy enough to actually get into a nuclear confrontation with America, he is well aware of what would happen in such a scenario, so Mycrofts thoughts are completely and utterly wrong.

Trump on the other hand, has very publicly shown a persona and a tendency to act extremely irrationally and unpredictably and it's exactly those qualities that you don't want when nuclear weapons are involved.

Trumps sunk down to the North Korean level and started throwing threats out there he couldn't possibly follow through on and so yes, I do begin to wonder who's the more dangerous actor in this play.

Kim executed his uncle with an anti-aircraft cannon. That's some pretty irrational ****.

The only real problem I see now is that Kim, in direct defiance to orders from China, just might be crazy enough to attack someone. Trump doesn't want that to happen, but if it does it'll be time to let slip the Mad Dogs of war. I'm hoping China has a good leash on the Rocket Man.

Trump may not want that to happen but he continues to play this silly name calling game with Kim. What he is showing is how totally immature he is. He needs to be presidential which we have yet to see from him concerning North Korea.

fmw:

It should be the "Peoples Democratic Republic of Korea" in English, not 'North Korea', which is an unofficial name. If a legal document does not properly identify the person against whom the legal action is directed then it is null and void in most Western legal systems. States are legal persons. So I wonder if this executive order has been crafted correctly and is legal or not.

Cheers.
Evilroddy.

It is actually DPRK. You got the first two words backward. But it doesn't matter. Executive orders aren't laws. They are instructions to the administration.

Getting China to crack down is indeed a step in the right direction.

There's a lot of ifs attached to that, but at first blush this is a win for Trump and the U.S.

I wonder what China gets out of the deal? I doubt it's any sort of fear of NK slipping the leash.

I think what China gets out of the deal is Pakistan and India not looking to use NK as an excuse to begin exploring their nuclear options further. I don't think China would be comfortable with either of those countries placing China in the same position NK is putting the US in.

I think Trump has a purpose in engaging in this "silly name calling game", as you call it.

I think he is sending an unmistakable message to the REAL power here: China. That message is that we don't expect any rational action from Rocket Man...that we will respond to any attack from Rocket Man with devastating force...that China needs to control Rocket Man.

I'd like to think Trump knows what he is doing, but he's a loose cannon and you can't trust he knows what his name calling will do in relations to North Korea. He would be better act like an adult and not stoop to Kim's level.

shrug...

You see him as a loose cannon. I see him as a strategic thinker and tactical actor.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Kim executed his uncle with an anti-aircraft cannon. That's some pretty irrational ****.

First off, it was reported that his uncle was fed to a pack of dogs and torn to pieces.

It was alleged that a top level General was killed with an anti aircraft gun... and both claims don't appear to have much to back them up.

Secondly the killing of his uncle is rumored to have been part of a larger purge of North Korean officials that Kim thought were too close to China or were very pro Chinese.

When you're a dictator you're playing survivor the real game.

It makes you extremely paranoid... We have no idea but there is that old saying, it's not paranoia if someone is really out to get you, in this case given what his actions have been, and China's reaction, it's possible, but we can't know for sure, that him doing what he did was acting quite rationally.

For When you lose the dictator game, usually you die.

The United States does not recognize DPRK so calling them North Korea is appropriate.

Love those bolder lines. So true.

Let's just hope that we don't ever have to sanction Namibia. ;)

SouthernDemocrat:

Thank you! I'm still chuckling at that almost 24 hours later. LOL!

Cheers.

Yes, but they have a choice: Keep trading with NK or keep trading with the US. They cannot do both.

Yeah they can, remember Big D backed down from his china bashing when the reality of our trade dependence is we NEED china as much as they us. If Donald tries to press for sanctions against China I imagine big business reminding him we need Chinese factories and our corporations are heavily invested in China's economy.

We cut our own throats if we stop trading with China... :peace

Actually, we don't need China as much as they need us. If we stopped trading with China...and that, and more, is what will happen if China continues to trade with NK...China's economy crumbles. Our's won't.

We owe them billions, they can trade with the world. You obviously haven't been in too many big retail stores, or looked at any of your clothing, electronics, cookware, hygiene products, the electronic bits in your car, planes, defense systems...

Our economy will crumble, our stocks will tumble, our employment stumble, all because big D is a bumble... :peace

If Kim goes to war with the USA he will lose.Bigly.

Wait and see.

I'm not a warmonger, but sometimes a nation just has to do what a nation has to do.

Who is Kim going to attack without have his ass handed to him?

And you think Trump is worse.

My point is he won't because he's not as crazy as the western media likes to portray him.

It's obvious in all your posts about him. Your making excuses for the NK wacko, which says a lot as well.

It's not surprising that you would characterize my posts as such.

All too often Americans like to portray their enemies as cartoonish mustache twirling villains that "hate our freedom".

I use to think DPRK was simply an insane dictatorship too, but when you start to dig deeper, you start to understand it's really not that simple and there are larger geo-political aspects than simply "guys mental".

The existence of the DPRK is abhorrent to me and Kim should be hung, drawn and quartered for what his regime does to its people.

But do not mischarechterize my attempt to understand why he's doing what he's doing with being sympathetic to what he's doing.

If you don't understand your enemy you can never beat them.

Then I mischaracterized your posts, my apologies. I usually just see your one liners, which in itself is hard to get a read on positions.
