California may once again scrape foie gras off restaurant plates, after judges ruled in favor of a ban on the delicacy made by force feeding ducks and geese.

The decision Friday by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals removes a roadblock to enforcing a 2004 ban that has been idled for more than half the time it has been on the books.

Food Network personality and Los Angeles chef Eric Greenspan described the ruling as “just crazy.”

“Let’s ban assault rifles before we ban foie gras if you want to talk about cruelty,” he said.

Eating Foie gras is like having an orgasm in your mouth. It may be the most delicious thing on this planet. Just insane California is banning food.

Good. How foise gras is prepared is unspeakably barbaric.

Should we start banning other meats as well? Chicken, ham, turkey, etc...?

If tubes are rammed down their throats and force-fed twice a day, then sure.

It is the method of producing the food that is questioned, not the food itself

There is a Spanish producer, Pateria de Sousa, that makes an exquisite foie without gavage by laying out lots and lots of figs, acorns, lupini beans, and olives for their geese to eat in fall. The Spanish foie is not as large as French force-fed foie, but it did win a blind taste test in France in 2006. De Sousa's foie has become the darling of the food world.

The reason the Spanish method works is the same reason we hunters occasionally see our wild foie gras: Waterfowl instinctively gorge in late summer and autumn, first to prep for the migration south—often a flight of more than 2,000 miles—and then to recover from that long journey. The domestic Spanish geese (which are a cousin of our wild specklebelly geese here) are slaughtered right after they've gorged for their "migration."

Eating live monkey brains is a delicacy in some parts of the world. Doesn't mean it's okay.

Imagine being born and not having one natural pain-free day in your life. The cruelty that goes into making this orgasm in your mouth is beyond cruel. It is extended torture. Then painful death.

Good for the court.

Find another way to have an oral orgasm.

Foie gras is OK, but for me not exactly an orgasm. I'll leave orgasms in my mouth to those more practiced in the art. I generally get a a half lobe and a few Oregon Truffles each year.

Geese tend to gorge themselves in preparation for the long flight south and store the fat in their liver. They don't seem bothered by the feeding process. PETA on the other hand, doesn't fly south and does seem bothered. But eating anything capable of moving on its own bothers PETA.

Again it needs to be explained. It is the method of force feeding that is questioned. The same with any food productions. i have no problem with eating eggs but do not wwant to see chickens caged all their life inside sheds without any ability to move around. I like eating a pork chop but detest the site of a pig locked ina a concrete cell with barely the room to turn around.

These methods are cruel and unnecessary, done only to maximise profit without a care for the sanity or health of the animal.

Really less cruel than today's factory farms?

That is probably coming. The public media in Germany are certainly working on the populatiin in a way that might be expected to stop resistance to the idea.

How you gonna get Germans to not eat sausage?

Funny, but you use that emoticon too much.

Not here...unless you didn't get the joke.

Of course, maybe I saw a reference where there wasn't one and have a dirty mind too.

This is the same courts that so it's okay to kill a perfectly healthy fetus for no reason. I wouldn't exactly champion those courts for their compassion for life.

Well, quite frankly, I think you and those chefs need to get over yourselves. Your pleasure is not worth the death and torture of another.

Sounds good really. The methods we use on those animals are far from being less cruel, but I see killing an animal as a cruelty in itself either way. You're correct to point out the hypocrisy.

If tubes are rammed down their throats and force-fed twice a day, then sure.
Honestly, is that really that much worse than what other animals experience on a daily basis? For example, poultry are not even covered under the Humane Slaughter Act and routinely have their throats slit open while fully conscious, followed by a dip in boiling hot water which many experience while still alive. Poultry make up the VAST MAJORITY of animals that are killed in America as well as worldwide by the way.

Again it needs to be explained. It is the method of force feeding that is questioned. Well actually, IT IS necessary when it comes to meeting the intense demand for animal products that exists all over the world. The only way these intensive conditions would not be necessary would be if we were to reduce our consumption of animal products by a significant amount, or to refrain from eating them altogether.

Really less cruel than today's factory farms?
Yes, good point. It should be noted that this is to be expected when you treat living beings as disposable commodities. The potential for abuse is exponential.

The 9th circuit once again proves why it is the dumbest court in the nation hey purposely ignore past rulings by other courts
To push their political agenda.

I prefer my animals gamey, the way god and nature intended it, to me an orgasm in my mouth is well done wild venison, or wild boar, or any delicious wild animal. People do similar crap with veal, And I will eat veal, but will never ever go out to buy it. The army served it quite frequently stateside, and it was bland at best.

The people who loved veal did not love flavor they loved texture, and considered being tender as being flavorfull, while I would rather take a hamburger, a steak, some half cooked brisket that is tough as rubber over veal. I consider anything force fed and tied up as flavorless crap that appeals to people who want something tender more than anything else, and would go to any lengths to achieve it even cruelty.
