[h=1]Exclusive: Secret Service depletes funds to pay agents because of Trump's frequent travel, large family[/h]
WASHINGTON — The Secret Service can no longer pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission – in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump's family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast.
Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex" Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year.
The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious election season, and it has not relented in the first seven months of the administration. Agents must protect Trump – who has traveled almost every weekend to his properties in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia – and his adult children whose business trips and vacations have taken them across the country and overseas.

Riiiiiiight!

Two weekend trips to Mar-a-Lago covers the cost of the transgender military medical expense he was trying to cut.

Reminds me of the old debates I had during junior's escapade's in Iraq...there were proposed cuts to seven programs over a 5 year period...programs for seniors and school lunch sort of issues...would cover the cost of the war for two weeks...AYSM

I guess he could supply his own security. But the press would bitch about that, too.

Yep it's the press fault he goes to his golf club to golf so much  way to go yet again not holding trump accountable for anything.

The fiscal year ends in a little over a month, so I don't get why this is supposed to be a big deal. Yes, Trump needs to stay in Washington more, but this doesn't seem to be a huge crisis.

You know DJT is all about saving the taxpayer a few dollars, he has said so more than once.

:lamo

Might I suggest that some very bad things are likely to happen if one of the Trump Kids is assassinated.

We might want to try to avoid that.

JUST SAYING

I am not sure a sitting president can opt out of secret service coverage. Seems like I read somewhere Jimmy Carter thought he could pick and choose his coverage and he learned the hard way that isn't how it works.

It's a big deal for a few reasons:

1. Was implied in the OP--Trump said more than once that there was so much work to be done he'd never leave the White House. He sold himself as a hard worker who (by implication) wouldn't take any time off. Part of that implication is that Obama wasn't working hard enough. But Trump is taking more time off, or at least away from the White House, than Obama did.

2. Obama's travel expenses were a consistent, and somewhat prominent, criticism of conservatives during his administration. It's rather odd that those same people who were crowing about Obama going to Hawaii over Christmas aren't saying anything about Trump's weekly trips to Florida or New York.

3. If Trump and family are running up so large a tab that the Secret Service is running out of money, his travel is in fact a problem.
