Julian Assange wants to hire the Google engineer who got fired for writing the anti-diversity manifesto
Yahoo Finance | By Julie Bort | August 8, 2017
On Monday Google fired an engineer who wrote a now infamous memo against diversity that went viral within the company, was published by the press and has been the cause of non-stop talk ever since.

But the engineer, James Damore, needn't worry about a job if he needs one. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has publicly offered to bring him on board. As you might expect, Assange argued that the guy had a right to express an opinion, however unpopular.

However, Assange went even further and appeared to defend the ex-Google engineer's controversial views by tweeting and linking to various bits of content that seem to be about scientists backing up the engineer's claims. To recap: the engineer basically argued that many traits generally considered sexist stereotypes are in fact basic attributes baked into human biology. The engineer also equated his belief system with being a member of the political right.

I agree with Assange that science does back up the engineers claims. It's incontrovertible. I said pretty much the same thing in another thread.

Since you seem to agree....do you have a link to the science that allegedly backs up the former Google employees claims?

What claims? Which science?

What claims? Which science?

Well, as far as your first question please read the memo for yourself: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/3914586/Googles-Ideological-Echo-Chamber.pdf

As for the second question the science would be like biology maybe? This is something a parent usually explains to an adolescent so it's a little awkward for me. You see men and women are built differently. Those differences manifest in physiological and psychological ways. This doesn't mean either gender is better than the other. It means they have different strengths and weaknesses comparatively speaking.

No, Assange wants attention. He’s using the sacked engineer to get it.

As a person who knows little to nothing about computers, my bet is Assange has all the attention he wants right now. Having to live in an embassy for a number of years, with British cops wanting to arrest you is sufficient attention IMO.

Given Assange's reputation with women, it's no surprise.

Not really. His own story fell out of the news quite a while ago, despite his repeated interviews and occasional headline grabbing stories. Of late he’s taken to sticking his fingers in to various issues that have little or nothing to do with him and this is a classic example. It’s exactly like a child throwing a tantrum.

It sounds like you are unaware of his recent spat with Laura Poitras and the network (Showtime?) that published the documentary RISK last month. I watched it, and wondered at the time about the stuff they were showing. I understand his anger.

I still think he has all the attention he wants, but maybe not. Maybe he offered to hire the Google engineer just for attention, but I doubt it.

I looked at it.
That's not the original internal memo, is it. Not according to this section title...

"Reply to public response and misrepresentation"

It's all an opinion piece, isn't it. There's nothing new in it. I wonder why he wrote it- it looks like a 'goodbye, cruel world' refutation of a company policy. I mean, was it really a good idea to tell Google they should stop alienating conservatives?
How long was it between Google firing him and Assange calling him? It's possible this memo was written with a career change in mind.
As for the science, I think he blew that when he referenced castrati raised as women.

Well, no, "science" does not "incontrovertibly" back up his major claims, the vast majority of which have been "controverted" in recent days....

Besides, the guy is obviously very smart, but the whole "invent a PhD" thing and claims like this don't do a lot for his credibility:

“As far as I know, I have a legal right to express my concerns about the terms and conditions of my working environment and to bring up potentially illegal behavior, which is what my document does,”

1) That's not all the document does
2) Legal right to express opinions? Sure. Legal right to keep your job? Doubtful - CA is an at-will state. Also, too, see "lied on profile with made up PhD"

Little or nothing to do with him????

He is defending unpopular speech which is very much what he is constantly being attacked for. The right use to hate him and now its the left that hates him. He has been a champion of free speech for a long time now. It seems to be the guys passion.
