Dems: Why did DOJ dismiss fraud case connected to Russian lawyer? | TheHill

Seventeen Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter on Wednesday to the Justice Department demanding answers as to why the agency abruptly dismissed a money laundering case earlier this year involving the Kremlin-linked attorney who met with Donald Trump Jr. during last year's campaign.

In May, the Department of Justice (DOJ) settled United States v. Prevezon Holdings Ltd., a $230 million fraud and money laundering case that accused Prevezon Holdings executives of fraudulently obtaining a tax refund from the Russian treasury.

In the case, Prevezon was represented by Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian attorney who met with Trump Jr. during the campaign after promising incriminating information on Hillary Clinton

What will it take for his party to speak out against his pandering and allegiance to all things Russia?

I don't know much about this case, but why does anybody care if some company defrauded the Russian government and their tax system? Heck, I though nobody liked the Russians.

Exercise a little intellectual curiosity and read a few articles about this suit.

You might not think that anyone likes the Russians but the current administration doesn't have a problem with them.

Sessions is as dirty as any member of the corrup trump administration.

Meanwhile, all 30 GOP house members on the appropriations committee voted for Kushner to keep his security clearance .

Two problems I see with the Hills article.
This four year old case involved at least 10 different law firms if not more, at least 4 defendants, 4 claimants (including usa) and several other interested parties.
Part of the lawsuit was dismissed back in 2016 and then there were motions in 2016 as well.
You can see all parties involved here including the lawyers representing each party.
https://www.law360.com/cases/5230d3325a3b56402e000001
And Natalia Veselnitskaya's name is not found as a representative of anyone

Trump's approval with the GOP base will have to fall before cowardly gops step up .

I dont know about you guys, but I find these nothingburgers quite nourishing.

Probably some evidence.

You got any?

After trump's behavior since his birther days building his base, can I use junior's words? "I love it."

What goes around comes around, both for trump and the GOP in all down ballot races .

According to the article the settlement brought $6M on $1.9M the US could have claimed. The rest of the $230M apparently wasn't part of the fraud that made it to the US.

From a totally unprofessional legal perspective it seems like a great settlement to me. Odds are the US would never have collected $230M and probably didn't have jurisdiction to do so. We did get 3x what we had some reasonable possibility to collect and that, folks, is a win for us.

That's what I read and took from it too. When you win, it's best to collect the trophy and go home happy. If you want a bigger trophy, you'll just have to play in a bigger game. This one wasn't all that big.

This calls for an immediate Snowflake Suicide Watch.

Losing the majority of at least one chamber. As long as they have both, and they get what he guaranteed them (whatever judges they want), they will NEVER buck against him, no matter how bad of an embarrassment he is.

It helps to have cockholsters like Hannity to appease the idiot masses.

90% of Republican voters are complete morons, so it doesn't take much to keep them convinced that liberals, Mexicans and black people are the source of all their problems.

Great for us in the next few years. Might really hurt in the years to come, especially because its the WS.

Dealing prospects for a rental, to be honest, usually works in favor of the renting team. Prospects that aren't sure things like a Harper or Trout are fungible assets. Trade them if you have a shot. Most don't work out.

It is a shame when there is disagreement that one resorts to calling over 100,000 of their neighbors complete morons. Your 3rd point is over the line.

They settled the case, not dismiss it. Huge difference and to say other wise IS fake news, and pushing an untrue narrative. THIS is the reason the media comes under attack, even if it is not MSM.
