Come September 1, Texans will be able to carry swords and other long knives in public.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law House Bill 1935, which allows any weapon with a blade longer than 5.5 inches to be carried in public. That would allow swords, daggers, machetes, stilettos, long knives – including the Bowie knife and spears to be carried in public.

However, the blades won't be allowed in schools, churches, hospitals and establishments that rake in over 51% of their revenue through the sale of alcoholic beverages. Private businesses also have the freedom to prohibit such blades from their premises.

Those under the age of 18 will also be prohibited from carrying blades longer than 5.5 inches if they're not under parental supervision.

Like Ninjas?

True, I have heard stories about people being stabbed with them.

I don't have a problem with knives being carried but I think long swords and machetes may be a bit too much.

It's gonna make people look like fools, and I really don't understand why, unless they expect an invasion of killer longhorns.

I don't think people are going to actually be carrying swords. I think this is more for large knives like a bowie knife which some people do carry to this day.

It probably makes it easier for ? ranchers and anglers, but it doesn't make sense if they can't go in many public places with them. idk.

Well who knows, it is Texas, lol.

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight.

Just sayin'.

Good times. I still have several. I picked up a custom rapier back when I was fencing in college.

Its in pretty good shape. I oil it with flitz gun polish.

Its quite uncomfortable to carry around for a day let alone weeks on end. Did you get used to it carrying it around all day for the festival? I did not. I am thinking a glock 40 is much more comfortable with other advantages.
