NBC News was forced to issue a correction on Sunday evening after spinning its newest talent Megyn Kelly’s interview to falsely claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin “does not deny having compromising information” on President Donald Trump.

To promote the debut of Kelly’s “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly” program, NBC News tweeted, “EXCLUSIVE: Putin does not deny having compromising information on President Trump in interview with @megynkelly.”

In the article NBC News tweeted, Putin is quoted as saying “this is just another load of nonsense”

"Have you all lost your senses over there?”


Alas Poor Megyn has to sit at the fake news table these days. I had hoped she would bring them some credibility.

I doubt she had approval over how the story went out technically.
These people can't help themselves.

Good call on the correction. Alas the damage was already done and the original was retweeted over 800 times. It is now a permanent part of the Internet landscape and a good example of unvetted fake news.

I guess we should be thankful when a retraction that shows the truth is the opposite of what was presented is issued at all. It is a gem in the pig pen.

The original story put out is fake, sure. But NBC showed they have enough integrity to discredit their previous article and issued the correction.

It was not just fake. It was the exact opposite of what was reported and was presented as a hit on the president.

An honest media is critical for the good of the country.

Calling out a dishonest media is also critical for the good of the country.

Like in many cases their crisis of credibility is a situation entirely of their own creation.

Though, there is no doubt that Putin is executing the Gerasimov Doctrine and waging nonlinear war on us and liberal democracy with targeted and precisioned ruthlessness that our society is unaccustomed to, he certainly is right concerning the way our msm are acting.

The problem is that the "lie" or "fake news" travels much further and much wider, than the correction.

Example, if you believe Comey's recent testimony, a lot of stories were circulated with false information.
That has reinforced the bias against our current president.

How many people are going to go back check to see if the stories, they uncritically believed, are true or not?
The answer is few to none.

How many people are going to view the current media, going forward with a more skeptical eye?
Few to none.

Lets be brutally frank here .... this has NOTHING to do with correcting anything but is merely part of the right wing effort to attack NBC because they are viewed as a political opponent of the Trump administration.

It's tantamount to being de facto participants in collusion ... perhaps inadvertent, but certainly eager for political gain from it.

Newspapers and the media produce thousands of articles a day. According to the OP, it they all aren't 100% -- even if they issue a correction, nothing they ever say can be considered reliable. This is just an example of the lunacy of the alt-right.

Ironically, the OP quotes an article from www.breitbart.com, which unlike the New York Times, doesn't have an integrity policy.
So: Let’s measure Breitbart. Do they have an integrity policy? No. Can’t modify it openly if they don’t have one, so another point against. Do they issue corrections? Here’s a (false) article that remains on their site uncorrected, not even a note from the Editor. It is one of many. However, they do issue the rare correction. Bizarrely they seem to be mostly when they’ve upset another far-right website.
The rest - citing sources, being very specific about it via links and specific people you could follow up with, and agreeing with those sources’ total characterization - are reflected on well by looking at this fact-check of another false story on Breitbart. The article pretends the date is years different from the original article, and asserts multiple facts that are disputed by the original article. They do at least link to a source this time, but it’s common to find articles where they do not.

True.

But it should be acknowledged that the Soviets and now its incarnation in Putins Russia used tactics approaching the current doctrine, the revised version to fit contemporary world reality...

So nothing just arriving on scene with Trump... GW and Barry Insane both two termers, dealt with putin who is always polishing his skills

Fact is that his 1000 minions spreading fake news were in direct competition with MSM also spreading fake news to disrupt/interfere in the election process.

While one can make the silly case that at least the MSM are "Americans " and putins minions aren't, that is more akin to homegrown terrorists being better than ISIS in Syria... right down to both being properly classed as more dangerous, they can, and have already done, more damage here

I agree right up to that last paragraph.

I, too, am fairly amazed, especially with the amount of, and which few can doubt had sone planning in its effecting or efficacy in achieving what was planned, dumbing down that the American electorate has received and yet we seem to sense that following a tempting false agenda just might lead us over a Niagara.

So might they not be reading the corrections but they are sensing the fake and so the falseness offered/pushed, and like most people with an annoying car salesman overdoing it with us , we pushed back... resulting in the election we, thankfully, obtained.

The establishment, their media, their politicians, their party machines became soft after many many years of not even having a true challenge, so not even having to try... lost skills, the right people to apply those skills and thus the edge.

A very sharp, skills honed ripe for the task and up to winning /dominating(Trump knows this is all out war, take no prisoners ) and so the now sloppy uncoordinated establishment is openly slinging the kitchen sink at him.

A now crazy wild animal with no avenue of escape... I am guessing it will get far crazier.

Better stock up on popcorn

If you believe Comey, some/many of those stories were bull ****.

I don't think the people who believed them will change much and will continue to uncritically believe them.

Yes. I. believe they are cemented in. It would be like giving up smoking, your whole world, all your friends, your identity and way of life would be disrupted, considered an apostate, a traitor an infidel... no going back as you would always be under an ominous cloud, distrusted by the fold

They corrected it. Sounds like a mistake to me. It's not like Conservative News outlets never make mistakes. Pizzageate, Seth Rich etc...
